I would recommend Gojo guest house, it is well placed to access most central areas of Kyoto by foot and there are some smaller authentic eateries in the streets surrounding the hostel. Everything is clean and the staff are very kind and happy to help :) Thankyou for the stay

This place is super nice: the staff is amazing, i love the traditional japanese style of the guest house and it's super well situated. Nothing more to add, it's perfect!

“A cozy, traditional stay with a home-like atmosphere and very kind staff”

Gojo Guest House is a truly charming place. The space feels warm and cozy, almost like a home, and the café area and decoration create a very pleasant atmosphere. It is a very traditional-style accommodation, with floor mattresses that were surprisingly very comfortable, I slept extremely well. Although there is not much privacy in the shared rooms (only curtains separate each bed), I stayed in a 4-person dorm and it was not uncomfortable for a short stay. The main downside is the temperature during winter. Since the place feels very home-like and traditional, it does not retain heat very well. The common areas can be quite cold and need to be heated with space heaters, and going to the bathroom at night can also be uncomfortable due to the cold. During the day it is generally warmer, but at night, when the heating is off, the temperature drops noticeably. The rooms do have air conditioning/heating, but it turns off when no one is inside, so if you return and the room has been empty, it can feel cold at first. I may have felt this more strongly because I was sick at the time (with a cold and an ankle injury), but overall the staff were very kind and welcoming. Despite this, I would still recommend Gojo Guest House for a short stay, especially if you are looking for a traditional and cozy atmosphere.

The best part of Gojo guest house was that it gave me the most authentic Japanese home experience that I wanted to experience. Nothing fancy, just the feels. Also it was so close to the kiyomizu gojo subway station, 7-10 mins walk roughly.

“Cozy Hostel with an Ideal Kyoto Location”

The location was excellent, every major Kyoto landmark is just minutes away by bus or subway. The place is very clean, the staff are friendly and welcoming, and I really enjoyed the hostel’s aesthetic atmosphere.

The staff was amazing, the people staying there were also very friendly (maybe this one is more luck that anything else) and it really felt like "home". I will stay there if I return to Kyoto

“Nice chill traditional hostel”

This is the place to stay if you're an extrovert who wants to make new traveler friends for sure. Super chill vibes and the facilities are well equipped. Old Japanese style house and rooms for those interested in that experience :D Plus the breakfast sandwich was really good

Traditional house converted into a guesthouse. On the ground floor they also have a cafe. Really cool, chill vibe. Friendly staff. Walking distance to gion and the train line. Air con in the room. Would definetely stay again

I liked the traditional Japanese style of the building and the staff were very lovely and friendly. The accommodation is close to everything you want to see in the area and transport links are just a short walk away.

“Great traditional stay at a budget”

Great traditional house with futon style bed for the dorms! There is enough toilets and bath for everyone. The staff are great and speaks excellent English as well. Lockers provided.

It felt SO FRIGGIN COZY like the cafe downstairs with the music such an amazing vibe. The rest of the house old but gold so fun to like just get up to regular stuff, washing, dinner. The staff were amazing, I didn’t exactly get to say bye because I had to leave early for the train I booked 🥲but they were amazingly friendly and really good sandwiches holy. The picture I attached is of Kamo River omg stunning, beautiful river to walk by and very popular with couples at night it’s a romantic place. Loved ittt
