The design and size of the room, it is very spacious and well layout, Location is very convinient if Zao mountain is your main objective, I would be backed just for the room.

Really appreciated for the staff who served the dinner and breakfast. They were very efficient and kept smiling even very busy.

First time to Zao for ski/board and while not a ski-in/ski-out hotel, the rest of the hotel was truly exceptional - the "way too much food" at dinners, the front desk team, the rental at the hotel, the guest room was big, the thoughtful snacks and drinks in the lobby, and the "to-die-for" view from the onsen.

Good sized rooms. The best Onsen so far in Japan. Great village but it looks like it has been neglected and hit some hard times.

This place was fantastic. Super close to the lifts (5min walk). Great variety at breakfast- I personally used this to get my daily greens in as it’s so hard to find. The choice of two onsens. Lovely service. A variety of robes to choose from to use also- very fun. Would stay again, for sure!

The staff, in particular Harada, were extremely friendly and helpful. We had a great stay.

“Perfect onsen hotel experience, amazing attention to detail”

A true 5-star experience in Japan. What amazed me the most was the attention to detail - from the room equipment to services, it seems that they have thought of everything. An example of such detail: They have 2 baths - and one of them is outside - about 100m from the hotel. Just for this 100m walk, they prepared winter coats and winter boots that you can wear over your regular yukata apparel so that you can reach it comfortably. The rooms are beautiful and have premium equipment. Breakfast was also wonderful. They also have very expensive massage chairs in the hallway that you can use for free, they were amazing. Zao Onsen (the town) is stunning in Winter and not as touristy as Hakone, etc.

“A superb hotel”

An excellent hotel to stay to appreciate the beauty of the ZAO autumn. The hotel is well located, very close to the ZAO ropeway while keeping a minute drive away from the ZAO small town center. We liked everything of the hotel, the arrangement of the rooms which all have mountain views, the comfortable lounge, the drink corner and the exhibition room which, during my stay, gave me a chance to look at the fantastic work of ITO on the autumn and winter of ZAO. I am really very grateful for this bonus event. We liked our room (508) which was in excellent size, spotless clean with large comfortable beds. We liked the meals, both the Japanese set dinner and the buffet breakfast, all dishes were in high quality and delicious. The onsen was also excellent. It stands alone a minute walk from the main building. We really could soap ourselves in the onsen and enjoyed the tranquility of quiet evening and morning. Finally, the staff who served us were excellent. We were grateful particularly for the service of the gentleman in the reception and the lady in the dining room. They deserved our commendation. Zao shiki no hotel would be our first pick when we visit Zao again.
