I should note, this was our first ryokan experience, but we have done more since and Ryoso Yufuin Yamadaya is still our absolute favourite! Yufuin is a beautiful, magical little town with wonderful people and Ryoso Yufuin Yamadaya is no different. From the accessible location (walkable from the Yufuin station), wonderful staff greeting who held our bags so we could explore Yufuin (highly recommend the yuzu ginger ale at Cucuchi) and the kind hostesses who looked after us during our delicious dinner and breakfast - this stay became the absolute highlight of our whole trip in Japan. The room is absolutely stunning - it's immaculately clean, the beds were so comfortable, our yukata were beautiful and comfortable (and as a couple taller and larger foreigners, we were happy we still managed to fit them. Although, my husband couldn't fit the shoes, but that was expected) and the bathroom was very well equipped with everything you could need (including a ReFa hairdryer!). But the highlight was of course: the rooms private onsen. It is the perfect temperature, it's so serene and peaceful so you can really relax. Honestly, we didn't leave our room until check-out because we loved it so much! (Though we regret not trying the location's bookable private onsen). Everything was excellent from the warm welcome from the staff to the well appointed room to the wonderful food.

It’s a very simple layout. Its simplicity and elegance is what makes it feel very original. The private bath is relatively smaller but it feels cozier as a result. The location is also very close to the station, so we can travel there easily after checking out.

The property is pretty close to the station by walking. It is a small accommodation but you have everything you need for a Ryokan experience. Love the varieties of the onsen. You can pre book the private onsen with no extra charge. The half board experience was great too.
