Traditional room, relaxing baths, friendly people - the best!

The time I spent at Ryokan Yamashiroya was the highlight of my trip to Kyushu. The hosts and staff were warm and friendly and made me feel very welcome. Food was exceptional and there were four different baths to choose from. A wonderful relaxing time and I felt completely at home.

Old style ryokan with lovely food

Quiet old onsen village hidden in a narrow gorge. Wonderful food and breakfast. Enjoyable private onsen - both indoor and outdoor baths. We loved the spacious room with the sound of the river, nice tatami mats and views from the vindows. Allow yourself to a stroll through the village, visiting the shrine with the buddha at the end of the village and the story of how an old monkey was the first user of the healing baths!

Excellent place for relaxing

Dinner on the day of arrival and breakfast were both excellent, featuring a wide variety of delicious homemade dishes. The onsen within the ryokan were wonderful as well, with two outdoor and two indoor baths available at convenient times. For those who enjoy golf, relaxing in the onsen after a round makes for a perfect experience. The room was spacious for two guests and furnished with two separate Japanese-style beds. I also enjoyed wearing the complimentary kimono, which added to the relaxing atmosphere.

Best food ever.

Everything was perfect. We had an 8 tatami room with its own toilet and handbasin. Food is sensational, the best we have had in 3 weeks in Japan. We started 2 nights and every dish of food was different for all 4 meals.

We booked based on good reviews which proved correct. It was well worth the short detour from Yufuin to stay here.
