Overview
Set within the former home of the Rowntree family - a lovely Victorian mansion with extensive gardens, YHA York is just a 15-minute riverside walk to York’s ancient centre. This property also features a restaurant and a games room with pool table, books and board games. YHA York is within the quiet residential area of Clifton, a 15-minute walk from York’s stunning, Gothic cathedral and historic city walls. The famous Betty’s Tea Rooms are a 20-minute walk away, surrounded by York’s excellent shops. York Dungeon and the Jorvik Viking Centre are a 25-minute walk away. Guests at YHA York can make use of the cafe and restaurant, or prepare food in the self catering kitchen. All rooms contain bunk beds, and there is a large, glass fronted common room for guests to relax in, along with Wi-Fi internet access. The property also has guest laundry, luggage and bike storage facilitates.

“Comfortable, quiet stay”
The restaurant is open late and early hours. It's a good place to hang out and meet new people or have a quiet sit. It has charging sockets and nice interior. The dorm rooms are nice with high ceilings, big windows, curtains, charging sockets at each bed and big lockers. It was quiet and comfortable even on a weekend. I could park my motorbike under a camera or in a car park round the back off street. Close to a large park. It felt more like a hotel than a hostel so great value for money. Security card access to rooms.

“Excellent would stay again”
Very clean and spacious. Staying in a shared dorm was quite good seeing as there was a heap of room between beds. Only a 30 min walk to the city center

“Great staff, great location, great stay”
Worried the beds would be wobbly and noisy but nice and sturdy, comfortable beds. No noise apart from friends snoring in our room. Also the staff seemed to be helping a homeless guy deal with his washing and getting a hot drink and some food which was nice to see. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.
