Impossible motel is in a fantastic location right in the heart of York city centre! The interior was edgy and has a very cosy vibe to it! We stayed in the Sir Joseph Terry room and it was smaller than I thought it would be but very comfortable and came with everything you could need even towel robes and slippers which was great for when we got out the lovely hot tub which was a fantastic touch! It was a gift for my boyfriend’s birthday and they even did the final finishing touch of adding a happy birthday card with some chocolate’s which was also a lovely thoughtful touch! Staff were very friendly on arrival and throughout our stay and even contacted me sooner to say that our room was ready before check in time! We would definitely stay here again :)

“Quirky hotel in the centre of York”

My partner and I stayed for one night at Impossible Motel for an evening wedding reception happening centrally in York. It was perfect for what we wanted - very central, easy walking distance from the train station, comfortable and clean. The staff were friendly, and kindly let us store our suitcases in the reception when we checked out, so we didn't have to find storage for the day. As the location is in the centre of York, there was some noise outside during the night, but the room seemed very well sound-proofed and we both slept really well. The bathroom was small (as the pictures had shown) but it was perfectly okay for one night, with a lovely rain shower. I'd happily stay here again 😊

The room was lovely however noise from outside was very clearly heard. The bed was so comfy I would have taken it home! Staff were so lovely and welcoming.

The location of this place is definitely its strongest point—very convenient and easy to get around, which made the stay more enjoyable overall. Check-in was smooth, and the person assisting was lovely and polite. That said, the interaction felt quite scripted, which made it come across as a bit impersonal rather than genuinely welcoming. Unfortunately, the room itself was quite disappointing and didn’t match the pictures advertised. The furnishings felt cheap and not very well put together. The four-poster bed looked far less appealing in person, and small details really let the space down—like the curtains being attached with velcro, which gave it a makeshift feel. There were also not enough bedside lamps, making the room less functional and comfortable, especially in the evenings. Overall, while the location is a big plus, the room quality needs improvement to meet expectations set by the listing.
