“Amazing stay, amazing hosts - highly recommend!”
Everything about our stay was amazing. Akira was incredibly kind and friendly and they accommodated the request for vegetarian meals for some of our guests. The onsen and our room were both amazing, and the breakfast was delicious. I wish we could have stayed longer.

Akiri our host was polite, helpful & so attentive to anything he could help us with, from a lift to the station or the Monkey park. He takes great pride in his Onsen & ensures his guests are well looked after. The experience was so authentic for us both even we felt quite humbled as we said our goodbyes, his mum came out to wish us well & gave us a small gift to take home. Well recommend.

“A wonderful onsen accomodation that is taken care of with great pride. The friendliest of staff (everyone, but especiall”
Everything! We were able to park our car out the front. We were warmly greeted by Akira who was so kind and sweet. He showed us around and took us to our room - WOW! Absolutely beautiful and spacious and feels like a traditional Japanese experience on futons and tatami. The fridge even had some local Yamanouchi beers (which are very reasonably priced). We had the opportunity to book one of two onsens on premises which were just fantastic - and everything so clean. Our room overlooked the small river out the front and our other window overlooked a small garden. The facility was quiet and very well kept - the fresh flowers were such a nice touch. It was wonderful value for money and i will definitely book here and recommend my friends if they plan on visiting.

Akira and Yumi were the most gracious hosts. They demonstrated Japanese hospitality at its best. I love that Akira is the 3rd generation in his family to run the business. The traditional Japanese breakfast was awesome. The onsite onsen was fantastic and convenient.

“Fantastic hosts”
The host Akira was fantastic, so friendly and helpful. He recommended a great place for a ramen dinner. The private onsen was a huge bonus. They gave us a lift to the train station as taxis were busy. Highly recommend this ryokan, can't thank them enough for an awesome experience.

Group of 6 snowboarding Dad’s from Australia, we needed a place for out last night in Japan, this Ryokan was a perfect end to a great trip to Japan. Akira the owner is one of those rare gems, goes out of his way to make sure your stay is a memorable one. We had booked dinner in a nice restaurant a when he wasn’t able to arrange a taxi for us, he and his Mum made sure we got to our dinner and back. We were so grateful. Beautiful on site onsen that was lovely to use, we loved our stay here

“The best place I’ve stayed in Japan!”
Everything about Yamazakiya was amazing. My second time visiting. Highly recommend. Akira and his family are delightful hosts, it’s meticulously clean, the traditional breakfast was a lovely experience and there are lots of cute dining/bar options just on the doorstep. I’ll be back. The perfect place to end a ski holiday.

“A Beautiful, Character-Filled Ryokan With Exceptional Hospitality”
This was a truly wonderful ryokan stay with an incredible atmosphere. The place is full of character and traditional charm — wooden stairs with that distinctive creaking sound, lots of cultural details, photos, and small decorative elements everywhere. It really felt authentic and cozy. We were initially a bit worried because the room didn’t have a private toilet, but that turned out to be completely fine. There are several shared toilets inside the house, all clean and convenient. The breakfast was very good and delicious. One important thing to note (which we didn’t see mentioned in other reviews) if you book breakfast for 7:00, you’re expected to be there about 5 minutes earlier. We arrived a few minutes after and some dishes were already a bit cold — still tasty, but it’s good to know in advance. The hosts were exceptionally kind and welcoming. Staff lady helped my partner properly put on a yukata and explained how it should be worn, which was a lovely cultural touch. The host also generously offered us a lift by car to see the snow monkeys, which we really appreciated. The ryokan has two private onsen baths, free to use whenever they’re available. After a rainy day, soaking in the hot spring was absolutely perfect. The onsen areas themselves were very nicely designed and atmospheric. The view from our room was beautiful — a quiet street with soft streetlights, especially lovely to watch during the rain. The town itself is very charming, and we would happily return if we’re ever in the area again.
