“An old, authentic place with charm and a hospitable owner.”
This is a special place with a long history, which is evident right from the entrance hall. It turns out the house belonged to the grandfather of the current owner (who is also quite advanced in age). He received us very kindly and hospitably. What is really nice is that your name is written on the board outside as a welcome. We were very charmed by the room, in typical Japanese style (which was also the reason we booked) and the accompanying Japanese outfit. The room was neat and clean, though the futon (Japanese mattress) was very hard to sleep on (in our opinion). That is inherent to the type of mattress, and I knew that beforehand. Of course, it is part of the whole experience in a ryokan. Furthermore, the building is old and not very clean everywhere, which we certainly forgive the owner for. The hot onsen bath located inside the building (one in the men's area and one for the women) was very refreshing and provided the necessary relaxation after a day of a long drive from Nikko. The bath, in the women's area, is small, about 1 by 2 meters. It is perfectly sufficient for relaxing and warming up wonderfully in the naturally warm sulfur water. The owner gave us tips on where to eat, and we ended up within walking distance for a delicious dinner. The icing on the cake was breakfast at 8 am: a delicious, typical Japanese breakfast with miso soup, hot rice, pickled vegetables, smoked sardines, and more. This overnight stay and meeting was a very lovely moment in our tour of Japan. Since we don't speak Japanese, the owner was kind enough to call the campsite for us, where we were going the following night. That turned out to be well arranged, for which we are once again very grateful!

“An authentic Japanese experience”
The authentic homestay-style experience, the delicious meals which consisted of a spread of amazing Japanese dishes (we had dinner and breakfast). The onset was amazing, rustic but invigorating and topped off our day. We were able to leave our luggage at the accommodation while we went to the snow monkey park on the final day. The host was fantastic, a true gentleman, who made us feel right at home.

“Ryokan with character, not luxury.”
Location was good for Monkey Park. We arrived bit late in day and missed the bus so the lovely owner drove us up to the park and gave us advice/map about walking back.

“A truly ryokan experience with exceptional local home cooked food provided by the owner.”
My 2 nights stay here was really a relaxing one after a week of snowboarding in Myoko. I had my first time stay in a ryokan where it has everything I need…amazing Japanese breakfast and dinner, hot springs, strong wifi and free laundry too.

A traditional Ryokan with a friendly and knowledgable host who speaks very good English. Clean, tidy, and warm, with little extra touches (red bean cakes and tea on arrival, lots of local information, a traditional onsen bathroom).

The property was well organised and clean. It allowed us to experience the traditional ryokan experience, which we enjoyed. The host was accomodating to changes in time when we needed them. The breakfasts were amazing, so many delicious little dishes each morning, the dinner was also great too.

“Japanese hospitality at it's best”
At this Ryokan guests can experience Japanese hospitality at it's best. The host was very warm and friendly person who went above and beyond to make the stay comfortable and memorable. The dinner and breakfast was amazing, the onsen bath was really cosy. All amenities are outside the room, but the atmosphere is 100% worth it.

The man running the Ryokan is incredibly kind, caring, welcoming, and friendly. I genuinely felt like I was at home. The Ryokan has a lovely homey atmosphere, and the bathhouse was really nice! The breakfast was delicious! He also offered to drive us to the snow monkeys, which was very kind of him and greatly appreciated. I loved my stay and would 100% stay here again!!

The man running the place is a jewel, but the place itself is a little... Underwelming, nevertheless everything was good.

The place is super authentic - it feels like stepping someone's home rather than a touristic establishment. If you are looking for such a feeling, then this one is the right place. It is technically a bit messy and full of staff, in general it looks a bit dated, but it all adds to the charm and - since everything works perfectly anyway - it is all positive to me The owner is such a great guy - he was very nice to us, even offering us a ride to the Snow Monkey Park, and in general explaining us a lot about the food or some cultural aspects. He speaks great English by the way The location is good, an easy walk to the train station and the public onsen, as well as a 15-minute walk to Shibu Onsen The food was so delicious - generous portions, good quality, great focus on fish

A traditional and authentic place, conveniently located near the station, easy to get to the Monkey Park. The owners are wonderful, extremely helpful, and very knowledgeable about the area, with good English. The stay itself was very comfortable — highly recommended!

“Old fashioned ryokan that should need some more care”
Kindness and helpfulness of the owner that kindly bring us with his car to monkey park, gifted us some sweets and apple from local growers. Position is good, near the station. The atmosphere of the location that is similar to the one of the whole city, where it seems to travel back in the ‘80s
