We had such an amazing stay at this traditional ryokan. The staff were incredibly kind, welcoming, and attentive throughout the whole visit, and the service was truly excellent. One of the highlights was definitely the traditional Japanese breakfast and dinner — such a unique and memorable experience, and everything was beautifully prepared and delicious. It felt very authentic and cozy, and we really loved getting to experience traditional Japanese hospitality like this. The hotel also had a very cozy private onsen area with both an indoor and outdoor bath, which made the stay even more relaxing and special. The location was perfect as well, right in the middle of the small charming village where you can walk around and explore easily. Another thing we really appreciated was the amazing service they provided with transportation. They offered rides both to the Snow Monkey Park and to the train station, which made everything so smooth and convenient for us. The atmosphere was peaceful and relaxing, and staying in a traditional ryokan made our trip feel extra special. We are so happy we chose this place and would absolutely recommend it to anyone visiting Japan. 10/10 experience — honestly couldn’t have asked for a better stay!

Suminoyu is perfect - we absolutely loved our stay! Our family thoroughly enjoyed our time relaxing in the onsen and using the public baths around the village. The ryokan staff are delightful and couldn’t be more helpful. In particular, the shuttle to the station and monkey park is convenient. The food is outstanding.

“A great guest house in a beautiful village”

The guesthouse is a newer build which is a great plus. Our room was very spacious and very clean. Tatami mats were comfortable. Location is great, right in the village centre and next to all bathing houses. It is also next to a beautiful temple and 3 minutes away from the bus stop. The staff, the food and the onsen were all great.

Really helpful and reachable hosts, I had several questions for them before staying with them and they responded promptly and helpfully always. I needed to have dinner a bit early and they also helpfully agreed - and then the dinner was such a beautiful, delicious feast, one of the best I had in Japan. Breakfast was equally awesome, I'd give the food a Michelin star if I could. The rooms were spacious and convenient, the hotel provided beautiful yukata and jackets for the stroll in town, and also the key to 9 public baths in town. The town itself was pretty, with temples on the hillside and quiet, quaint streets. Also the hosts picked me up from the monkey park and dropped me off to the train station the next morning, so helpful!

The whole experience, including the incredibly attentive staff, the excellent food, the gorgeous building and location, were all top-notch. Wish I was staying longer, hope to come back soon.

One of the best hotels I have ever stayed in. Homely feel and excellent hospitality combined with modern facilities and quality furnishings. The service from staff is exceptional, the roof top onsen is lovely and food amazing with a multi course dinner and breakfast. Highly recommend the 9 public baths too.
