Overview
Chalet Shiga is located in Shiga Kogen in Joshinetsu Kogen National Park, only a 1-minute walk from Diamond Ski Resort and Family Ski Resort. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel, including the lobby and rooms. We offer 10 types of guest rooms. Western-style rooms, Japanese-style rooms, and Japanese-Western-style rooms. The hotel has a coin-laundromat, ski lockers, and ski equipment rental store, and the spacious public bath and sauna room will help you relax after a long day. Both Japanese and Western dishes are served for breakfast and dinner. Meals are served at the dining room and guests can stop by the bar for late-night drinks as well. It is only a 1-minute walk from the express bus stop. From the East Exit of JR Nagano Station, take the Nagano Dentetsu "Express Bus for Shiga Kogen" and get off at the "Ichinose Ski Resort" bus stop, which takes about 90 minutes, and the hotel is only a one-minute walk away. JR Nagano Station is a Shinkansen arrival and departure station, and buses can be taken without reservations.

“Absolutely incredible 8-night stay”
I was a bit worried reading the mixed reviews but this place was absolutely incredible. Ski in (straight to front door), ski out (cross the road to ski out, straight down to a chair lift). The staff were so friendly and accommodating. Dinner was absolutely amazing, different Japanese meal sets every night. The buffet breakfast was so much better than I expected, it was a proper buffet with hot and cold food. I was worried about the steam heating that all the hotels in the area use - due to reviews about noise - but it didn’t bother me and I’m a fairly light sleeper. Be on time for breakfast and dinner - this is also a cultural thing. When they say dinner is 6-7:30pm, they mean arrive at 6pm. It seems like some people didn’t know this about the culture based on reviews. We had a western style room with bathroom and it was very spacious with a good amount of furniture. The communal washing machines and dryers were super handy for our longer stay of 8 nights. Super convenient ski rental shop located within the building, we were very happy with the price and equipment. Very handy (free) lockers there for your gear. Vending machines in the hotel, craft beer place downstairs. I don’t know what more you could ask for. I reckon it’s probably a 3.5 star hotel rather than 3 based on all my Aussie stays. This was definitely the highlight of our trip!

Kaiseki dinner was quite good and had sufficient variety. Although we had to use the common bath, it was generally empty even though dining area was also packed at meal times. Location was really good as it was within walking distance to 2 ski areas.

“Perfect ski-in ski-out stay in central Shiga Kogen”
Perfect location next to ski slopes. Relatively bigger rooms suitable for families (way bigger than the quad rooms in prince hotel). Has everything you need - ski rental, onsen, healthy breakfast, parking right at the front door, a lively bar/restaurant downstairs.

“A week in Shiga Kogen”
Perfect location, right on the slopes. They are slowly renovating and it will be fantastic once all rooms have been completed. Whilst we didnt have a renovated room, we had one with our own bathroom which I would recommend. The breakfast was great and staff super helpful. The quality of dinner was exceptional, however does become repeatetive after six nights.

The location was with in a short walk and ski to the lifts. Food was outstanding. Rooms were comfortable. Ski hire was with the building. Staff extremely friendly.
