Awesome. 10/10 stay for solo traveling.

Love the staff here. Arrived after a long tiring voyage in the dark. After getting checked in she organised me a spot at a local sushi place as a first meal of the day 5 minutes away which was awesome. Did my daytrips with bus. If you plan to use bus.. at miyanoura port i suggest you head straight to the building to your left after getting of the toppy ferry to get a bus pass so you don't search around, miss a bus and have to wait another hour for the next one. Next time i will not be to lazy to get a drivers licence translation and rent a car (maybe). Had perfect weather around ~20°C in November.

A comfy inn where we spent more days than expected due to the storm, yet the staff made our stay comfortable amidst chao

The location is really good, with a bus stop directly at the end of the street (2 min walk) and only a 10min walk to the city center of Anbo. The rooms are small, but not tiny. The common space is cosy to use with some nice music playing. But what makes this hostel worthwhile is absolutely the hosts. They are super helpful, patient and make excellent Japanese breakfast. We got stranded on the island due to storm at sea which caused our ferry to be cancelled, and the staff helped us through the whole process and made us feel at home in the whole chaos.

Great stay on Yakushima

Yurino and Chika helped us in any way possible with advice, reservations and a minor medical issue. It was truly a pleasure to stay here. Location is great too just outside Anbo but close enough to some restaurants and most of the trailheads. Quiet nights and comfortable Japanese-style bedding.

Great locataion and super helpful staff.

The very best part about my stay here was the staff. They were super helpful and could not have been more friendly. I was unable to hire a car, but in truth the bus service is actually quite fine for a couple of days if you can manage to read the timetable!! For a longer stay - get yourself a vehicle!

The minshuku Is near the stop n 60 of the Island bus. The room was a traditional japanese one and the futon was good. The bathroom was the same as other you can find in a normal hotel in Japan. The staff was amazing! The 3 girls who run the Guesthouse was really kindly and they help us to organize the trekking and they also book a table for dinner and prepare me a bento box when i woke up earlier than breakfast time! Really nice!

Lovely helpful staff but disappointing details let the place down somewhat.

Haruka and the staff were really friendly and helpful, eg recommending restaurants and how to get to them, and clarifying bus stop locations, and trying to help meet my food allergy needs eg by looking into breakfast and bento options.

I will definitely stay here again. The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming. There's just a bright atmosphere. It's important to understand that this is not a luxury hotel. If you can accept that it's a place for hikers and travelers to feel comfortable, you'll be fine. For example, there are lots of signs in English saying things like it's OK to hang your wet hiking things in your room! There's a common space where we can get tea and coffee, which we can take to the room. We can also sit there and chat. I liked having a private bathroom/toilet rather than having to go along a corridor like we have to do in many other places. Another thing I really liked was that they have a 9pm "lights out" (meaning silence) because many hikers get up at 4am. I really liked this system. Nice and quiet! For an ensuite room with a bit of breakfast (I was given bread), this was the best value for money on Yakushima.

A must for hikers and good starting point for many activities

Wonderful hosts, especially Miho-san (shiny sparkling) is a really lovely woman with a cute smile so your mood will get immediately rise sky high! A bus stop is just down the street and food supply is not far in Anbo.
