“Brilliant!”

Yakunoyado Taguchi is a much-recommended base for exploring Yakushima island. The guest house itself is lovely despite the bedrooms being minimal, but the stay was made special by Shigeru and Hitomi, who went out of their way to help us navigate the island - including giving recommendations, lending us waterproofs, and driving us to certain places. Hitomi's cooking is delicious! The big baths are great after all the walking. There are also two beautiful cats.

The location is very convenient, the room was extremely clean and well kept, the meals absolutely delicious and the hosts wonderful, informative and friendly!

My favorite part about my stay at Yakunoyado Taguchi were the hosts, Shigeru & Hitomi. They are a lovely couple that made me feel so welcome and helped me figure out how to get around the island, as I didn’t have a car. The accommodation is located about 25 min by foot from Miyanoura town, which is absolutely doable, though the last stretch back to the property is dark walking back at night. I do recommend getting a car if you’re planning on going to Yakushima, as buses run very infrequently and the timings aren’t ideal. The rooms were clean and spacious and the shared shower and bathroom facilities very well kept and clean. The common area is available from 7am to 9pm. Even if you don’t opt for included meals, there is a fridge to store your own food and you can use their tableware to eat your meals in the dining area.

Lovely quiet place, 15min walk from port, bus stop and nearest supermarket. There is a pavement by the main road so walking in/out was no problem at all.

Awesome stay with Sigeru and Hitomi. Both were so welcoming and caring, so that we could fully focus on enjoying Yakushima Island. We would definitely recommend and come back. Also breakfast and dinner option was very delicious. Thank you for everything!

The house was walkable from the port, but Taguchi-San will provide pick up and drop off service. The nearest supermarket also walkable for about 15 minutes. The house was clean. The couple was really nice, I felt happy to stay here.

The staff were so nice and helpful. Picked me up from the port, gave me tips about my objectives and made preparations for me to rent a car. I was not able to leave Yakushima for 2 days due to strong wind and they gave advice on what I could do and had me back for those 2 days. The room was spacious and the futon bed was the most comfortable I've had so far. Everywhere was sparkling clean.

Shigerou and Hitomi were very helpful in planning activities and factoring in the weather. The dinners were exceptional, and I enjoyed the local sweet potato shochu too. Easy to walk to the local buses and Shigerou was generous in offering to transport to and from the ferry port. Everything was so clean and fresh in the facility too.

Shigeru-san and Hitomi-san were incredible hosts - they were really kind, knowledgeable and helpful throughout the entire stay. They had great suggestions for how to best organise my time (3 full days, 4 nights). The dinner that I had was delicious and the guesthouse is beautiful, clean and calm. It was lovely to take hot baths after some long walks! It felt like a sanctuary within a sanctuary - a great place to reflect on the natural beauty and heavy history of the island.

The hosts were lovely (+spoke good English) - the email from them offering to pick me up from the ferry port went into my spam, but they insisted on driving me to the port when I was leaving. They helped me work out bus timetables etc aswell. The location is walkable from the town (but you should take a torch at night).

I traveled alone and the owners of the place were always attentive to my itinerary and safety on the island. I didn't have a car, so I used the bus every day to move, and they were also very helpful with the time schedule. The room and shared spaces were extremely clean. I would definitely stay again in this place.

“Well-worth the value and a fantastic stay”

It was well-worth the value and even exceeded my expectations. I read the reviews in advance and check the photos beforehand. When I arrived there, it is very clear that Taguchi-san's family take a lot of care in maintaining the place. It was a great place, surrounded by nature, very quiet and tranquil. Taguchi-san was in close communication with me and picked me up from the ferry terminal so there was no hassle at all. He offered to drive me to the place of my bike rental but I know he also had other guests to pick up so I did not want to bother him. I am quite an independent traveler and didn't mind walking a lot. The facilities are great, and again, it was well-worth paying every penny. One tip for travelers who may be used to staying at different kinds of accommodation in Japan: Bring your own pajamas as this was not provided. Not sure if they could provide it if we asked, but I came prepared and didn't see this as a negative thing. Just an FYI. Taguchi-san also gave me a few recommendations for places to eat and where to go. I came with a clear goal of going to Shiratani Unsuikyo because of Ghibli movies, but he knows the place like the back of his hand and can give you a lot of recommendation. I found out later from the place info and regulations he showed me that you could probably ask him to drive you around for a fee, but only if he's available, so please be sure to ask him in advance.

Lovely hosts who offered lifts to/from the ferry. I declined as it's only a 15 minute walk. Super clean. Basic room but had everything I needed and I was given a kettle for the duration of my stay. Excellent place. Highly recommended.

Our hosts were so friendly and helpful. They helped us navigate the island, gave us tips for what to do, picked us up and dropped us off at the airport, and made a delicious breakfast. The room was perfect and very clean. I will definitely be back when I'm next in yakushima.

Very sweet and helpful owners. We got shuttle service to the speed boat pier and the lady of the house provided us with the best tips for food and activities to make the most of our short stay. We would definitely love to come back someday and spend a few more days.

Very kind and helpful people and a great place to stay on Yakushima. The food is excellent (make sure to book with them in advance)! Very clean and everything is in good condition. Easy communication in English.
