Absolutely marvellous - added to my fantastic memories on Yakushima!

Both the owner and his son are extremely lovely hosts, and the property was incredibly serene and beautiful. Tucked peacefully outside of Miyanoura and yet easily accessed to the main island perimeter and walkable grocery store distance. I also took a chopstick making course with the owner, which was a wonderful memory. I 10/10 recommend Wa no Cottage Sen-no-Ie!

Our stay here turned out to be one of those unexpected highlights you don’t plan for but remember most. Funny enough, we initially came to the village for a chopstick-making workshop and only realized afterward that our accommodation was actually located there as well. What started as a small logistical detour turned into a genuinely warm and joyful encounter with incredibly kind people. The workshop itself was absolutely wonderful. The old master is such a gentle, joyful person with a constant smile, and the whole experience felt authentic and heartfelt. We even received some lovely handmade items, which made it all the more special. The accommodation was equally impressive. We had a very spacious apartment with a natural, wooden atmosphere that felt calm and grounding. It had everything we needed: a fully equipped kitchen, a fireplace, very comfortable beds, air conditioning, and one toilet. The host was wonderful, very warm and welcoming, and took great care of us throughout our stay. One of the most memorable touches was the fire barrel he lit every evening. After a rainy day, it was the perfect place to warm up and unwind. The whole setting felt traditional, peaceful, and somehow a bit magical. The location by the river adds to the charm. While it’s best to have a car, everything is easily accessible. Within just a couple of minutes you can reach the town, where you’ll find supermarkets, restaurants, and everything else you might need. A pleasant surprise was that this was the place where we encountered the best English spoken during our entire trip. Also, this place fits Yakushima perfectly. You absolutely have to try the local food: fried flying fish, barnacles, and the incredibly fresh raw fish. It was all truly delicious and added so much to the overall experience. Yes, it rains a lot here, but that’s part of the atmosphere and beauty of the area. It adds to the lush, mystical feeling of the place.

An absolutely amazing place to stay in Miyanoura area. The room was very spacious and had everything you might need, and the traditional bath elevated the experience even further. The owners are extremely friendly and helpful. We hope to come back to Yakushima and to Sen-no-Ie in particular (¬‿¬)

A comfortable stay in a tranquil setting - you must go!

We had an incredible time at Sen-no-ie Cottage. The photos do not do this place justice. The setting is so peaceful and serene with the river close by. Our hosts had already turned the heater on for our arrival, and again they had warmed the cottage up for our return after a big day of hiking to Jomon Sugi. It is a clear that a lot of thought has gone into setting this place up and maintaining it. The hot bath was also super relaxing. Overall, we were very comfortable for our three night stay and neither of us wanted to leave.

An amazing place to stay

An amazing place to stay. The guy that lives on site was super helpful. The property is located outside town, set in the middle of trees beside a river - really peaceful. The bungalow was very spacious and the traditional Japanese bathhouse was a nice touch.

Exceptional

We have loved everything: the location (near Miyanoura port), the facilities, the option to book a chopstick workshop... our time there was so cool! We really enjoyed the workshop, so I'd definitely recommend anyone to try it out! Our host has been welcoming and reactive, he took time to explain the facilities and where to buy food, and even offered to drive us to the closest bus stop. Thank you, we will come back :)

Amazing place

Amazing place out of time, with a huge cottage all in wood, the river and forest all around, and the very peculiar bathroom with a cauldron heating with a fire. We highly recommend the chopstick lesson in the morning. We would have stayed longer if it was not fully booked

The whole area is just wonderful and a great starting point for exploring the island. We stayed in a spacious wooden cabin with out own kitchenette and toilet, and we had our own private bathroom with a bath that comfortably fits one person and uncomfortably two. :)) The accommodation is in walking distance from few restaurants and bus stops, but also hidden away in the nature, close to a river. The owner is very nice and hospitable and even picked us up in the city when we first arrived. We had a great time!

Satisfaction guaranteed

It’s a magical place, set in the trees along a rushing river that you can hear from your wood-heated river rock Japanese tub, a nightly treat after a challenging hike. Everything was immaculate, couldn’t have been cleaner or more orderly. Above all, for those who appreciate peace and quiet, it’s heaven on earth.

Really nice and quite big house, the japanese bath heated with firewood is awsome. The staff is kind and speaks english well. They run a small woodcraft business (chopsticks, necklace, etc...). You should defenitively try it, you may want to rent a car.
