“Should have booked here in the first place!”

My 9-year old daughter and I were in Winnipeg for a 5-night vacation in August 2023 and initially stayed in a rathole the first 2 nights from which Booking.com was able to facilitate our escape. I then booked here at Afan House of Joy. See the title of this review... The location is a bit far from the tourist action, but there are great restaurants, coffee shops, and shopping options within a 6-minute drive. For example, the kid wanted sushi and there were good choices within that radius. In a way, this was good since we spent our entire days out and about being tourists but could relax in knowing that we had a lovely place to come back to. The facility is a very bright and spacious basement 2-bedroom suite which is very comfortable. (To those of you for whom stairs are a deal-breaker, bear in mind you are in the basement of someone's home.) Everything you need in the kitchen for food prep and storage is provided including a drip coffee maker, full size fridge, and cooking utensils. You do need to wash your own dishes, dispose of your garbage at the end of your stay, and provide your own coffee and food. The bathroom was fabulous and bathing/showering were a treat. They even provide a good toilet plunger! (We only needed to use it once but it made short work of the problem. A big plus!) HD cable TV and wifi are provided. The bedrooms and beds themselves were extremely comfortable. The kid (who usually cuddles with mom or dad and needs a night light) insisted on having her own room and luxuriated in there with the door CLOSED! You get to park in the main driveway. The neighbourhood seemed to be under development, but it is an upscale engineered residential neighbourhood and felt very safe. Since it is not in the heart of downtown (like we were the first 2 nights on Maryland Street), you are away from the unsavoury elements. We found it calming and the good weather also contributed to a relaxing vibe.

The warm welcome ❤️and how nice and clean it was. Beautiful home and such nice people. We didn’t worry about our vehicle because it was in a nice neighborhood. It was quiet and we will definitely stay there again.
