beautiful, peaceful. location. Most guests would be there for the safari, as it would not be the place to stay for multiple nights, as there is not much else to do. The staff were delightful and the breakfast was delicious.

“Awesome paradise in Wilpattu”

The location and the whole place is a dream. Rooms are extremely comfortable and food was absolutely delicious. Staff was extremely friendly and we also booked a safari with them. The safari guide was awesome, we even saw a leopard thanks to his determination, and plenty of other animals (elephants, birds, etc). I can’t recommend this place enough

“An amazing stay at the backwaters lodge!”

The backwaters lodge is an amazing place to stay and I would recommend it to everyone. The location is really great, on the side of the river (you can swim!) and really situated within the forest. and ofcourse wilpattu national park is very close. Everything, from the chill areas to the accommodation and the food, is done with so much care and the staff is amazing. They have some small excursions around the place and you can book bigger trips (like the wilpattu safari) there as well. Since it’s a small place they tend to book up, so if there’s availability grab your chance!

Excellent eco friendly lodges in a great location

The atmosphere is really nice of this place. Beautful garden, nice river. Dinner is good. Staff really nice. We liked it very much. Safari was also good, good driver.

“Comfortable into the wild”

The location felt like a remote jungle escape, loved how close it was to the entrance of the national park which was the least crowded. The staff was very accommodating, clean rooms and plenty food ;-)

Lovely setting in amongst trees and by lake. Great conversion of shipping containers. Comfortable beds but it would be good to have another thin bed cover/blanket available as we found it a bit chilly in bed at night. (17-19 January). Interesting books to borrow from Reception. Great place to stay as very close to Wilpattu wildlife park which is well worth visiting. Good to have choice of picnic to take with us.

“Wonderful lodge, great location and friendly hosts”

My wife and I stayed for 2 nights at the beginning of our Sri Lankan adventure. We couldn't have picked a better place to start. The setting by the river is just beautiful, drinks on the jetty, bird watching as the sun went down a highlight. The short nature walk on site, with quotes along the way is fun. There are lots of other options (paid) to choose from. Our room was spacious, comfortable and clean and the food was great. Tarique and the team were so welcoming, friendly and helpful during and also before our stay. They arranged a pick-up from our hotel in Negombo, a full day safari (not to be missed) and onward transfer to Anuradhapura. All worked a treat. It’s a great place to stay if you are looking for somewhere quiet, friendly where you can relax surrounded by nature.

The food here was amazing, we were treated to a feast at every meal! The staff were very friendly and the eco aspects of the lodge great. Free filtered water refills. It was very close to Wilpattu entrance making the early morning safari easier.

“Perfect stay in nature”

Very beautiful and peaceful place to stay. In the middle of nature, at the riverfront. The room was not that big, but ok. We got an extra bed for our son. The room was clean, with a terrace. Food was very good. We are vegetarians which was no problem for them. Staff was very friendly and helpful. After the safari's we could take a refreshing swim in the river. Which we really recommend. We did some kayaking too. No wifi in the room, only at the front desk and restaurant. However, no wifi required if you are in such a beautiful place. The place is a good spot for birdwatching.

Great atmosphere, as if you’re visiting somebody at home instead of being at a hotel. Very welcoming and homely. Fantastic and authentic Sri Lankan food. Amazing staff.
