“Hidden gem on Lake Victoria”

Incredibly beautiful lodge close to the lake and in a very secluded location. The road is long and bumpy to get there, but that just adds to the charm! Rooms and facilities are lovely and comfortable. And staff is incredibile!

The lodge is beautifully located, with a pool and a private beach, making it a great place for relaxation and birdwatching. The room, designed as a standalone cottage, was set in a lovely garden and was large and spacious.

A place worth recommending. Good food, friendly staff, nice garden, many birds around!

“Peaceful and beautiful”

This is a great little spot on Lake Victoria very close to the swamp for birding. The staff are so welcoming and the food is excellent. The property is set in its own grounds with so many different plant types . The swimming pool is lovely, clean and refreshing.

Mabamba Lodge is the place to go on Lake Victoria for birding especially for the shoebill. Surrounded by a park-like garden with lots of indigenous trees and bushes with its own sandy beach it attracts birds of all kinds easy to spot, observe and photograph. The highlight being definitely the boat cruises along the shores of Lake Victoria leading into the swamps where the famous, fascinating yet seclusive shoebill lives. The lodge will provide their guests with an excellent boat-driver and guide knowing their way through the zig-zag of channels within the swamps and the territory of the shoebill. The staff of the lodge will do anything to meet the guests' requests on an individual basis. The relationship between the lodge staff and the neighbouring fishing village is very pleasant based on mutual respect and understanding adding to the lodge's wonderful atmosphere.

“Splended, especially to be able to meet my lover!”

In realistically and literally I soaked in the nature during the whole stay. The boat to Mabamba swamp started from the private shore in the garden. The guides and tours arranged by the hotel were very good in the both of swamp and , hill climbing and village walk. There were no restaurants near there so decided to eat dinner all days, the menu and presentation as well as the taste were very nice. People are all comfortable and helpful, but a pair of hornbills are often coming to fight with them in the windows, even in the early morning, but this is also a part of the nature.

It is in an amazing peaceful location, surrounded by beautiful plants, birds and butterflies. Food and service was wonderful. Great access to Mabamba swamps where we saw the shoebills!

“Loved our stay at Mabamba”

Wonderful staff looked after us and made our stay a delight. The resort is on the edge of Lake Victoria and set in lush vegetation. The food is delicious and the pool is fantastic. Rooms are eclectic, comfortable, and clean. Loved our stay here. The Mabamba wetlands are less than a kilometre away, and the resort organised an excellent local guide, Brian, and a boat to take us there to see the shoebills. Birdwatching heaven!, The short road to the resort is dirt and can be affected by rain.

“Fantastic staff and food at Mabamba Lodge”

Exceptional food and staff. Perfect location for the shoebill tours - the lodge is lakefront and has its own boat for a guide to take you. Great room, amazing pool and birdlife at the lodge itself. We loved our stay - John (chef) and Joanne our amazing host went above and beyond to ensure we had a great time and were well fed with healthy and delicious food. Staff were always on hand helping us at our crazy arrival and departure times. We hope to come back again to stay at the lodge and see the beautiful shoebill once more.

Cute place in the middle of nowhere. Rooms are beautiful…

The service was very helpful and kind, vegan food can get ordered easily and the cabins are very nice constructed.

I like the multiple activities, such as a bird-watching tour on a boat and cycling. The compound is quite big, so you can walk around.

The hotel is set in beautiful gardens close to the lake. The dawn chorus was magnificent. The staff were amazing and incredible helpful. The food was absolutely top notch. Well prepared and presented. Also when we decided to leave early the owner was so helpful and found us another hotel in Kampala.

Great service, great staff, wonderful food. Made everything easy. Recommended.

The food was excellent. Sarah is a fantastic cook. The shoebill trip was great too, we managed to find one and to get very close to it. Staff is nice, the cottages are beautiful.

This is literally a tropical paradise. Bungalows in the jungle on the bank of Viktoria lake. And at the same time you have all necessary conveniences. Super friendly service, amazing food (not only taste but also presentation), unreal place to have a rest from all the troubles of the world
