“Misleading Underground Room with Unbearable Damp Smell”

Do not be fooled by the photos. Our room was underground, with windows facing dark basement shafts/storage areas, not real outside views. It did not match the impression given by the photos. The damp smell was overwhelming and made it almost impossible to sleep. Opening the windows did not help, because the room is below ground level. The air felt heavy, humid and unhealthy. For me, this was not a place to stay — it was a place to leave.

This was my third stay in Volos over the past three or four weeks. The location was absolutely perfect for an overniight stay after disembarking the late ferry from Skopelos - basically four or five minutes walk up a gently sloping road from the pier. Excellent communication before and during the stay. The apartment was scrupulously clean with excellent lighting and a comfortable bed. Strong wifi. Hot water with shower head options in a unit with sliding shower doors. I didn't use/test the four hob electric stove. There is an excellent large fridge/freezer, and the kitchen is well-appointed with new cookware and utensils. The apartment is partially subterranean at the rear of a three-storey building with two units per floor, reached via a small but attractive entrance area and a short flight of stairs. Consequently, it is a decent distance away from the lightly-trafficked, single lane, one-way street that the block is on. While the apartment does not have views, natural light and air is provided by two small windows at the rear of the apartment - one in the kitchen area, the other in the bathroom. There is also a slightly larger double-window in a side wall.

Central location and if you are not shy to walk a bit, there are free parking places in the nearer surroundings. The place is a house with several apartments. We had the one in the basement which was OK in consideration to the price which was absolutely fine. For one night manageable. The place was renovated with an eye for details at first sight.
