Liked Bertus and Una the best host ever, very informative and help with all our money exchange, sims and took us around the town of bilene just to see what it’s all about. The island beautiful, beautiful. I come from the city and wanted to down wined. Even went on a tour of the island to the beach. This Family is absolutely amazing and love interacting with their Guest I’m a private person but never found them irritating or noisy never. I love them

We like to experience beautiful places that have the special character and personality of true locals. This is the perfect place for adventurous types who love to find magic in the artistic expression and clever craftmanship of a place with owners who express their hospitality through these small details and how they care about their guests. I would especially recommend this for mountaineers, campers, outdoor enthusiasts, groups of friends with children who love to go to bed early and wake up with the sun and try something out of the ordinary - hop on a kayak, swim in the lake, find some seahorses, get your toes and your legs wet dangling your feet off a river boat, have a go at sea fishing, hike to see turtles, braai on the beach. The characterful rooms are set up like a very comfortable safari campsite - with comfy beds and lovely bathrooms. Spaces have variable groupings, depending on guests - some with an outdoor or indoor kitchen to suit the weather and socialise under the stars. The windows have very practical built-in Mozzie net frames, so they can stay open at night and the beds have mosquito nets for any escapees! Una and Bertus and their staff are the most wonderful hosts and their sweet dogs who also regularly checked that we were OK were an added bonus for the children. We were treated like family and this was a grounding, earthy, soulful holiday that will be in our hearts and memories forever.

We had the most amazing stay at Shongili. Una and Bertus are both exceptional hosts (together with their lovely dogs 😄). They went out of their way to make us feel at home. The location is unbelievable. We will never forget the beautiful private beach. We loved the excursion by boat to see the turtles and braai on the beach with Bertus.

“Idyllic Island style breakaway”

We loved our host and hostess Bertus and Una,and the staff, Areletta, Orbadea, Alfonso and Renaldo. We loved the informal, rustic atmosphere and facilities. We also liked the Bali style furniture and island style decor furnishing. We had a most relaxing restful time. It was easy to arrange to do shopping in Bilene town, just being a 7min boat trip across the lagoon. We enjoyed the picturesque drive around the lagoon too, although there was a small section just outside town of Bilene on the way there that may have needed a 4x4. We had our bakkie so we were fine. The beach just in front of the lodge as well as a smaller lagoon and various swimming pools are ideal for couples and families. The canoes were a lot of fun, and we took them to the lagoon mouth to explore. We would highly recommend this destination for a total rest and breakaway. I would recommend staying long enough so that you lose track of time and all the world's trouble. We staying 2 weeks long and we should have stayed longer if we knew prior to the time just how wonderful it would be!

The lodges look great and the surroundings are amazing. The facilities and activities are also very nice. Bertus and Una are very welcoming and the same goes for the rest of the team. We really enjoyed our stay and would love to come back sometime.

I had booked for my group and Bertus spoke to me telling me that my group liked the place I must pay 15000 before he takes them to see the place. I paid and when my group got there they wanted to leave immediately. They left and he over charged me on booking.com the price was R14035 but he demanded payment of R15000

“A host and hostess second to none!”

Loved the location. Rustic and homely and the host and hostess is amazing, warm and kind! We were able to buy fresh fish of the boat and cook immediately which was an added bonus. Visiting the nearby dunes and lakes beaches including flamingo Island was special. Water is warm and your location is private and safe. It's magnificent views are so special and enjoyable.

This is a special place for people seeking absolut tranquillity in a beautiful tropical setting. The hosts are super welcoming and will help you with everything you need. Accessibility is by boat or by 4x4. I recommend the boat ride through the lagoon! The rooms were clean, and the bed was very comfy. Definitely a recommendation.
