This review is solely about the hotel itself, not the people who work there. To be clear, the staff at Capitol Residence were very friendly and helpful, always greeting us with smiles and doing their best to assist whenever needed. That said, this is, of course, my personal opinion of Capitol Residence, but I must say that the way it’s been advertised is far from the truth. I have included photos to show what a REAL room actually looks like. Upon arrival, we were greeted with smiles — quickly followed by a long list of rules. Not a simple “How was your journey?” or a warm welcome, just an immediate rundown of do’s and don’ts. It felt as though we were being treated like a group of unruly holidaymakers in Ibiza rather than respectful guests. As several other reviewers have already mentioned, the air conditioning is extremely loud and noticeably outdated. The room layout is also rather impractical — again, please see my photos for reference. Additionally, guests are required to either pay a 1,000 Thai Baht deposit or leave their passport at reception “in case of incidentals.” This policy doesn’t exactly inspire trust. While I understand that some guests may have caused issues in the past, surely that’s the exception, not the rule. With daytime temperatures around 33°C, it would be nice to return to a cool room. However, the hotel’s rules state that you must not leave the air conditioning running while you’re out, meaning you have to wait quite a while for the room to cool down upon your return. In my view, when you pay for a hotel room, you’re also paying — within reason — for the electricity it uses. I fully support energy conservation and always act as a respectful guest, but the room I pay for should be my private space until check-out. I’ve paid for that privilege, and as long as I leave the room in the condition I found it, that should be enough.

Great location. Free airport pick-up and drop-off service. Great massage on the ground floor of the hotel. Breakfast on the rooftop, with a choice of menus (several options). Surprisingly, you can only choose one - coffee, tea or juice.

Really spacious one bedroom apartment, well furnished and very clean. The breakfast was good with a choice of Western and Asian food. The cafe also offers evening meals but best was a sundowner watching the sunset over the city and Mekong. Location was good easy walk to many restaurants, we particularly liked the Italian restaurant diagonally opposite. The Office Bar down the road was also good. Highly recommended accommodation in Vientiane.

Breakfast was fantastic and one of the best parts of staying. Nothing is better than a tasty breakfast, coffee, and the view of the river on the rooftop dining. The place was clean and comfortable, with a great location. We really enjoyed our week long stay here.

Great location, spacious rooms and good breakfast on roof. The staff also helped us greatly by delivering our luggage directly to airport when our flight from Pakse was late and we did not have time to go to hotel to pick up luggage before next flight.
