“Vicuña is lovely and the Bayti is a nice place to stay”

Didn’t actually stay in the Colibri (hummingbird) Hostal; opened at 9am and young guy handed me the phone to talk to Richard (the owner) who said we were actually staying in the Bayti 100m down the road. Bayti was lovely with an internal courtyard and Richard was good company and very helpful. Good breakfast (from 9am - Vicuña doesn’t start early!). Good location a few mins walk into centre. Vicuña is a nice small town with lots of bars/restaurants and a nice feel. Richard pointed us to Elki Magic, a small company who runs car, bicycle and other tours in the Elqui valley.

A beautiful hostel in a quiet part of the town. The facilities including the breakfast were really impressive. The garden was a lovely place in which to unwind.

We spent 5 nights in this lovely place. The staff were very helpful with everything, they gave us lots of information about all the things you could do during your stay. The garden is very beautiful with all the flowers, trees and hummingbirds. The location is perfect, just a short walk from the center but still quiet and peaceful. The shared kitchen is equipped with everything you could need to prepare meals during your stay. The "basic" breakfast was very filling with lots of options ( bread, jams, coffee, different cheeses, juice, fruit, olives...) Thank you! :)

“Would stay again...”

I would absolutely stay here again. We were welcomed warmly, shown around the place, they were flexible with leaving our stuff on check-out and it's a short walk from the town centre. They also have dedicated parking and gave us a a set of keys to the garage gate which meant that we could come and go as we pleased. We loved our stay and wished we'd had the time to book some extra nights.

Excelkent friendly hostrl in l9vely vicuna.

Communication with the owner before and during my stay. I had an upgrade of my stay in another hostel. Owner speaks perfect english. They have delicious homemade yoghurt and jam, good bread and goatcheese for breakfast. Also good tips for tours in Valle de Elqui.

“Great stay with awesome breakfast”

Breakfast war really good, a lot of handmade items, best breakfast so far in Chile, near to center, nice garden with a lot of nature

Richard offers a warm welcome as you as soon as you enter and offers advice about the local tours. Our room was ready early which was a bonus and the breakfast with homemade items was the best and most filling we have had in our travels around south america. The location was great and the hostel felt quiet and secure. We really enjoyed our stay!

The words in this review will never do justice to our incredible stay at Hostal El Colibri, or do justice to the hospitality of Richard and his excellent staff. Richard is not only the best hostel owner we have come across during our travels in South America, but he is one of the most special people I have ever met in my entire life. The Elqui valley and Vicuña is a beautiful place with a unique energy - and Richard makes you feel this from the moment you are introduced. If I could give his hostel 100 stars I would - oh, and seeing the stars in the Elqui valley is a MUST. Likewise, the Lebanese eggs at breakfast are a MUST. Thank you Richard for a stay I will never forget.

Lovely hotel in a great central location with walking distance to the center of town. Decent sized room, good breakfast with quality local ingredients. Friendly and helpful staff. Secure parking.

“A fabulous, comfortable place to stay”

It feels like coming home. Richard and Mary could not be more welcoming or kind. The breakfasts are all extremely good but I would recommend that you try the Lebanese breakfast, a complete meal in itself...we didn't need lunch or dinner afterwards! The cabin we had was very clean, comfortable and spacious. A bonus is that there is a laundry service available at a very reasonable price. The restaurants that Richard recommended were all excellent, but by a whisker the Italian was the best.

“One of best places we've stayed”

Fantastic space, peaceful, local, relaxing atmosphere. Can make your own coffee, dogs and cats around, really good shower. Close to distillery and viewpoint, still close to town. Really helpful and friendly but left to enjoy amazing breakfast and lovely grounds.

Amazing friendly host with interrsting history. Delicious breakfast totally worth it to pay extra. Very nice space with cozy common spaces. Funny and friendly dog.
