“Unforgettable, for all the wrong reasons …”

The house itself is handsome — a 19th century gem that makes a striking first impression. Inside, the furnishings and the décor of the house … unforgettable. Each decorative choice is so daringly unusual that one cannot help but admire the owner’s total commitment to challenging conventional notions of taste. We had booked accommodation in what is described as a ‘superior apartment’; in reality, it’s a gloomy, ground-floor studio room with a little window offering a privileged view of a wall - and with an office ceiling. A refreshingly original use of the term ‘superior’. The amenities are equally distinctive. Breakfast is thoughtfully delivered the night before, with croissants and bread carefully stored in a plastic bag, ready to be enjoyed slightly less fresh the following morning. The air-conditioning remote control had been confiscated — no doubt a visionary gesture for both energy saving and guest character-building. Special mention must go to the house rules. Guests are greeted with a wonderfully thorough booklet: lights to switch on and off, plugs never to unplug, items to be washed and sinks to be wiped down — all enforced with the reassurance that any oversight can be lovingly charged to your deposit. Time is also treated with refreshing consistency: early arrival or late departure are particularly discouraged. At 30€ per half-hour (or part thereof) in advance of - or after - the official time, you’ll certainly be motivated to be punctual. For those who enjoy combining C19th architecture with an almost monastic sense of discipline, this is truly an unmissable stay.

The owners are very friendly, I was on a business trip and slept in the apartment, which is actually a small studio but well equipped for one or two people. You have a microwave oven, and for smokers, you just open the door, and you are in the courtyard. The Internet works reasonably well. Sometimes, you lose signal on your phone but just turn off and on the wi-fi on your device, and it resumes full signal. On the laptop, it was more stable, may be a problem with my phone. However, I was able to work comfortably with wi-fi available, and that is more than enough for me. I will definitely sleep there again if it happens that I will be working around there again.

The room was really clean, spacious and nicely decorated. I participated in the table d'hôtes, which was tasty and pleasant due to the nice company. The breakfast was outstanding: a huge buffet with everything I could have wished for: good bread, cakes, cheese, joghurt, fresh fruit, ...

“Just what we needed at end of our journey”

Easy to find and great to have a car park spot. Impressed to see a spot for electric cars. We stayed in a room outside of but connected to main house via steps to a little patio. Our room consisted of two- one bedroom, overlooking a fab view and second room with a full kitchen [which we didnt use] Everything clean and tidy and rustic. Evening meal out on the patio, hosts help with seating according to language and likes. Lovely meal from local produce. Splendid breaky on the patio and great bed and shower pressure. Would recommend and thanks for Francis for teaching me to say Marrrtayne
