Overview
Set between Sanremo and Montecarlo, the Calypso is in the centre of Ventimiglia, just 200 metres from the seaside and 400 metres from the the train station. The rooms offer free WiFi and an LCD TV with satellite channels. The rooms of this family-run 2-star hotel come with a private bathroom. A generous breakfast is served daily. The property features a bar, a night porter, and a private garage available on demand. Guests can use a communal computer with internet access. Every Friday don’t miss the famous street market that opens its stalls in the proximity of the Calypso, which is also surrounded by a green park.

Poor. We arrived on the day that I thought I had booked. It turns out it was the day before. We wanted to be there for the market on the Friday. I do not know who was at fault. The owner was unfriendly and unsympathetic. Almost rude. He offered us an alternative 3 bed room for 170€ having already paid €120. When we asked about the parking there was none available now. When I said that I had paid for it he exploded and told us to get out. There was no longer a room available. He was very rude. We left and found a room in the Poste. The owner was quite charming and helpful. I would never advise people to stay at the Calypso. It was definitely down market from La Poste and the owner had the charm of an alley cat.

An excellent option for a short stay in the city, within walking distance of the train station and close to the park and beach. The hotel is 2 stars and fully meets expectations, clean, everything you need is in the room, and a decent Italian breakfast is served in the mornings

“Wonderful old city, had a spectacular train journey into the Alpes and back.”
The receptionist was very nice and helpful, spoke English and French very well. Room was spotless, wonderful to see a large ceiling fan as well as air con. Bed super comfortable. Breakfast was excellent, and the whole hotel seemed as though it had just been re furbished. Absolutely spotlessly clean.
