“Cute old school turned into a B&B”

Cute and beautiful old school in a small island village just on the sea shore. Our room had an amazing sea view overlooking the bay. The property has everything you need to disconnect and relax for a couple of days. And it is really quiet especially compared to the city noises we are accustomed to. Really close to the popular beaches on the island, which is a big plus. If you bring your bikes with you, you don't even have to use the car. We will definitely visit here again.

If you want a perfect gateway from everything, this place is a destination for you. Everything is relaxed and you have a feeling that you own a whole place for yourself. It’s not a perfectly clean, but it has island vibe, force you to be simple, modest and to enjoy your island experience. Sea view is amazing, and cricket song is the only thing you will hear. Host is nice and gave us the room with sea view upgrade.

My stay in Dugi Otok was nothing short of unforgettable, thanks to Amacord Skola and its owner, Bea. As my bus transported me from the ferry to the idyllic and serene Veli Rat, I entered the beautiful house, found Bea at the doorstep, I instantly knew it was the place to be. The house itself exuded a vintage charm, with doors and windows adorned in hues of the sea across the street. My room was very neat and pretty, with the window opening to the picturesque view of the sea. The bathroom was spotless. Bea told me I was very welcomed at the family’s bar at Sakarun beach, a delightful surprise that further enhanced my stay. A leisurely 25-minute walk or a 10-minute bike ride (complimentary for guests) from the house led to the best beach on the island, Sakarun. The bar/restaurant Amarcord situates directly on the beach, nestled beneath the soothing shade of towering trees. I found myself spending most of the time here, either reveling in the crystal-clear waters or lounging at the bar, sipping on fine wines and indulging in delectable lunch. The food was so fresh and delicious. With super reasonable prices, I was fortunate enough to savor the catch of the day, prepared by Bea's husband, a fisherman and an excellent chef. My lunch that day was a big plate with grilled fish and calamari, a homemade salad, some breads and it was a true taste of heaven. It was authentic homegrown food made with love, sort of like at your grandma’s. Bea would offer to drive me sometimes with her scooter between the house and the beach. Meeting Bea and her husband was a genuine pleasure. Their kindness and warm-heartedness left an indelible mark on my memory.

Lovely surroundings, perfect to de-stress. 10 min walk to the beautiful Sakarun beach, mini market, marina, scooter/boat rental, pizzeria. The place itself feels small but cosy.

This is a pure gem! Spacious, clean, comfortable and so tastefully decorated space! Differently from other rented places in Veli Rat Amarcord Skola provides outside shade casted by the trees rather than parasols. It has a generous decking space which I used for afternoon yoga. You can sit outside in a lovely shade hearing the gently rocking boats on the other side of the road. You also do not need to go all the way to any beach but instead dip into the water just across the road too! There is an outside shower to rinse off which is very refreshing! I stayed at Amarcord Skola for 5 nights, loved it and would like to come back. It is accessible by a ferry and a bus (yes, there is a bus!). You take a ferry from Zadar to Brbijn and from there you will have an option to take 201 bus operated by Liburnija (liburnija-zadar.hr). The bus leaving time is synced with the arrival time of the ferry which is very convenient. You can return the same way. This saves you going to Bozava (which is only 6km away from Veli Rat), but is not serviced by the bus that well as Brbijn. At the Amarcord Skola you can have breakfast at an additional cost or get something in the morning from a near by shop (yes, there is a small village shop 2 mins away on foot). Although not extensive, but you have options for dinner within the vicinity too. I didn't have any means of transportation and felt the distances to the nearby beaches were walkable. I preferred a bit of slow down pace, the sounds and the smells of the nature while walking at the countryside. The place and the village are very peaceful, not overcrowded.

We rented a small 3 person room but for two people. All as advertised - shared bathroom with shower for two rooms in the corridor. The old school building is beautifully renovated with great attention to detail. For us it was a great, beautiful space to be in. Comfortable beds and gorgeous see view out the window. There was no air con in our room just a fan but it was enought for us - our stay was at the end of August so the nights were at comfortable temperature. Lovely hosts, friendly atmosphere. The apartment is about 20-30 mintues on foot from the Sakarun Beach - we were lazy and drove a car. Something to bear in mind - the kitchen nook is really small - there is fridge and a microwave so if you are planning to make your own proper meals and not just sandiwches like us, its not enough. “Great place in a relaxing area”

Place is very very nice, properly renovated. Position is great, north west of the island, very close to Sakarun beach (3-4 min driving) and Veli Rat lighthouse. Few restaurants are in the area, which I extremely relaxing. Staff is friendly, you often find them at the beach bar in Sakarun.

This place is full of old memories, purist taste and a mixture of lovely details and authentic vibes. The ‘school-theme’ is present in retro-style furniture and funny objects and give the whole building some kind of oldstyle, magic touch. Bea is a gifted, professional and heartwarming owner and you could truly imagine her as the always humorous and helpful teacher you still carry on in your heart.
