We really enjoyed our time at this hostel in Uvita. The location is directly on the main road, which was perfect for us since we had rented a car. It’s easy to find and very convenient as a base for exploring the area. The hostel itself is very clean and nicely decorated, and we appreciated the attention to detail — even small touches like a pleasant scent in the room and an essential oil diffuser made the space feel welcoming. We stayed in a dorm that offered a large bed suitable for couples, which we really liked. The beds were comfortable, had their own power sockets, and offered a good level of privacy, making the stay very comfortable overall.

“Amazing place with a unique positive atmosphere”

Everything about this place is amazing! The really personal touch of the ladies looking after the place, the setup and look & feel of the shipwreck. It’s totally amazing. It’s not one of the cheapest places I stayed in, yet it deserves that rating and price. I picked it due to its location and I also walked all the way to the beach one day (it’s stunning)!

The hostel is absolutely pristine & the staff is excellent. We particularly loved that the dorms/ bunks were essentially little cabins which gave you plenty of privacy & comfort sleeping. There is also ample space to store all your luggage & lockers have keys provided which is a big plus. The kitchen is well equipped & super clean.

Friendly Dutch owner Sander was present at the hostel frequently and easy to reach via whatsapp when checking in and had great recommendations about the area. Hostel had everything we need (great beds, good wifi, filtered water and a good kitchen). High recommended for anyone stopping by Uvita.

“Great hostel and staff”

I had a great time at Shipwreck Hostel in early January 2025. Had a great time. Staff were great and really helpful. Allowed me to leave my bag overnight. Great place.

“Lost at sea? Go to shipwrecked”

The place is easy to reach since it's near a bigger road. The dorms have AC and the WiFi seemed stable (14Mbps down). Staff is friendly and the whole building is super awesome. The "upper deck" is basically a big lounge where you can hang out or play a game. When I arrived I wished I had booked more nights. The bed and little pods were comfortable. Even though I booked as one person I got a 2 person bed. The kitchen has everything you need and the supermarket is across the road. The rooms are kept clean and the bed/pod has a recess into the wall where to light and power socket are. The art on the walls and the little signs really brings it all together. If you are looking to stay in Uvita I highly recommend.

A very nice hostel with really nice dorms. Your own privat loft in a dormitory, with nice lights, a secure place in your loft to charge your phone, privat curtains and comfortable airco. At the roof they build a really nice 'relax area' and some co-work places. Everything they do, they do it with love. You can see that in the details. But mostly you can feel it in the atmosphere. They just want to bless....and in my days there...people started to do the same. It was such a blessed time. Thank you so much! Monique

The dorm capsules are very nice. Chillout deck and trees around are also very nice. Thr location is in the middle of everything.

Personally I didn't find this hostel to be in a good location or atmosphere. The hostel is run by volunteers and it felt like they were their own group with you intruding. Only the person checking me in introduced themselves, the others didnt interract with the guests and it was hard to know who was on shift. The location is one the main highway, there are some shops and restaurants around but it is impossible to get to them because you have to walk on the main road which isn't safe because there is no pavement and cars are travelling at speed. It's particularly bad for females because you get harassed by the passing cars. The beach is 40min walk away on a smaller road, but same issues apply.

“Great hostel, comfy beds, good kitchen”

The social areas were great and the pod style beds were spacious and comfortable. The volunteers were so friendly and helpful, especially Peri. The communal kitchen was well stocked and there was good atmosphere in the whole place. Location was a nice walk in between the bus station and the beach.

the cleanest place we have stayed whilst in costa rica, although it can be a little tricky on foot would definitely stay again! The owners and the people staying at the hostel were all lovely and the kitchen facilities are amazing!

Amazing experience in this hostel. All good, services good and very organised. The location is tricky if you don't have a car but everything is reachable by feet - just a long walk to the beach.

Perfect hostel, safe, clean, relaxed, good people, owner always willing to help out. Be prepared, the hostel dog is awesome.

I really loved the atmosphere of the place, which is indescribable. Friendly staff and beautiful views. You'll just feel lovely there;)
