We had a fantastic stay at Thalpe Walawwa Heritage Villa and would highly recommend it. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, the grounds are absolutely beautiful, and the pool is superb – very peaceful and well maintained. The villa itself is a stunning historic building and our room was spacious and full of character. It really felt like staying in a special place rather than a standard hotel. Galle can be reached easily by tuk tuk. The beach is a 15 minute walk away, where you can find a number of restaurants. There is no restaurant on site but the staff can cook for you if given notice. The breakfasts are amazing. Overall, a lovely, relaxing place to stay with excellent staff and facilities.

We had an amazing stay at the Villa, the grounds are beautiful set in the jungle with a lovely pool and perfect accommodation. The area is peaceful and secluded but town is only a 10 minute tuk tuk drive away. The staff were really friendly and helpful, the Sri Lankan breakfasts were exceptional. I thoroughly recommend this villa.

“Perfect retreat”

A true retreat! wonderful historical property set in a large garden, in a quiet location surrounded by jungle yet well located for beaches and Galle fort. Superbly looked after by Suranga, very difficult and sad to leave after several days of pure respite. For sure will come back…

“A wonderful relaxing stay in an authentic villa with the most beautiful grounds”

We had the most wonderful week's stay at Thalpe Walawwa. This was our first visit to Sri Lanka, and we were delighted with our choice. We much preferred staying here than a modern hotel. The villa is well cared for, the room was comfortable and beautifully furnished - and the air conditioning and WiFi worked well. Above all, we were very well looked after indeed by Suranga and the team. Our breakfasts were a highlight of the holiday. Each day we were presented with different fruits, excellent tea and coffee, and an incredible selection of dhals, currys, sambals, coconut rotis and string hoppers. Every dish was excellent. We also ate at the villa one evening, with similarly delicious food including fragrant rice. The grounds of the villa are beautifully maintained, and we saw and heard so many beautiful birds and butterflies - which was a real highlight of our holiday. The pool is fantastic, and very refreshing. The villa is about 1.5km from the beach, bars and restaurants, and is easily walkable in about 10-15 minutes. It felt very safe, and it is an interesting walk past houses, a school and a temple. Take a small torch if you're going to walk back in the dark. Suranga arranged a tuk tuk or taxi whenever we needed one, and our friendly tuk tuk driver Santha also arranged our trips to Galle, Koggala Lake and the Handunugoda Tea Plantation - which are all highly recommended. We absolutely loved Thalpe Walawwa, and would love to return again soon. Thank you!

The entire property is gorgeous and full of wonderful creatures. It is a fantastic retreat away from busy Columbo. Suranga is exceptional in graciously taking care of guests and making this place the gem that it is. Wish I could stay longer!

“Incredible, peaceful stay with delicious food”

We had an amazing stay at the villa. It was quiet and private, but not far from everything you need. The room was lovely and spacious for us and our 1 year old. The pool was also great, but the highlight was the food. We had most meals here and they were incredible! Thank you for the amazing hospitality.

Amazing place, we were just relaxing there for 3 days and we loved to chill in the pool and observe the wild life everywhere - lizards, birds, peacocks, dog, cat, squirrels... we didn't hear anything else except the nature. The garden was beautiful and even the villa itself very nice. I liked the furniture, it has some spirit. Staff was also super helpful and nice. Also the wifi was working quite ok, unfortunately it did not fully cover our room, but that is something which may change to the future

Gorgeous setting and a very peaceful property. Away from the hustle and bustle but a short tuk tuk ride away from lots of restaurants and nightlife. We absolutely loved the pool. The room was very clean and house manager Suranga made sure we had everything we needed at all times. The food was also amazing. The Sri Lankan curry dinner and Sri Lankan breakfast was an absolute highlight of our stay. Could not recommend this hotel more!

“Beautiful colonial style bungalow set in quiet peaceful grounds”

Beautiful location set in 10 acres of land. Super quiet you just hear the jungle noises. Gorgeous swimming pool. Old colonial style bungalow full of charm and antiques. Our bedroom was facing the front lawn spacious and charming. We had the SriLanka breakfast which was delicious and also had supper of traditional vegetarian ‘’curry and rice’ which was really so tasty.

Absolutely great and comfortable villa. Absolutely amazing views. Peacocks everywhere. Rooms are clean. Pool is very nice. Great housekeeper Suranga, who helps everytime everywhere so that you can just sit and enjoy. Great and tasty breakfast, you can even ask for national sri-lankan breakfast.

The housekeeper Suranga was great! Always there to help. The pool and grounds were amazing. A really charming old villa set in acres of forest farm. Super comfy beds with AC rooms. Really nice Sri Lankan breakfast and we also paid extra to eat a great Sri Lankan curry lunch.

We visited Heritage villa for several nights and booked it as a whole for our families. Villa itself consists of a main building with 2 bedrooms, common area and kitchen and second building roughly 50 m from the main one - this second building has 2 bedrooms with bathrooms and they are connected. Overall - very special impression. This historical villa belongs to a certain family so you can see some pictures and personal staff in it. However all is managed quite well for hosting guests. Breakfast is included by demand and there is also a possibility to order a dinner - this you can discuss with manager. Pluses: big and very well maintained territory, big swimming pool, hot water from boilers, hospitality of staff, response to any needs, clean rooms and house overall, home-made dinners (on demand), authentic atmosphere of old colonial style house. Good for renting out as a whole. Might be considered: no noise isolation between rooms in any of buildings, location in the middle of jungle - so you’ll probably hear birds and animals (might be a bit noisy especially in the morning), location 1,5 km from the beach line - you can always get there with tuktuk however might not be an option for someone. Might be challenging for single-travellers because of all the above. Overall we were quite happy with the place and definitely can recommend it.

this property is very special, it’s heritage is very interesting and feels so genuine. Set in amazing grounds we saw pineapples, mangos, peppercorns, avocados, jackfruit all growing around the property. also spotted little monkeys and lots of peacocks.
