Quite location. Very good staff, friendly and attentive. Air con worked extremely well. Mosquito nets and burner supplied In the room were much appreciated.

We recently stayed at Dunes Hotel for 3 nights as part of a wedding group. The hotel itself is lovely and it was a great setting for the celebrations, so it’s disappointing to be writing about the way our stay ended. It was only at checkout that we realised our room had been charged at double the rate of the other rooms within the same group - including my mum’s, my sister’s and her friends’ bookings. Ours was the only room at this significantly higher price - approx £128 a night when it should have been £30-45 While I understand that rates can vary, particularly if booked via Booking.com, the discrepancy only became apparent when we were settling the bill and comparing with the rest of the group. Paying double for what was essentially a comparable, fairly average room felt disproportionate, especially given the 12 of us were all attending the same wedding and staying for the same dates. The front desk staff were polite and tried to assist, but we were advised nothing could be adjusted. Given the level of business our group brought to the hotel, we had hoped for at least a goodwill gesture or partial reduction, but this was not offered. Overall, it’s a nice hotel and we did enjoy parts of our stay. It is certainly not worth > £100 a night however, and whomever controls the dynamic pricing for these rooms is predatory. We booked it though so shame on us!

“Lovely stay in the heart of unawatuna”

The property is a super close walk to the beach strip with all the restaurants. It’s also beautiful and in nature. A very unique and authentic stay. The staff are kind too! There are bugs but it’s totally unavoidable as the resort is in the middle of nature. The owner clearly tries to minimise this with mosquito nets, mosquito repellant plugged into the room too and the daily cleans. It’s worth saying that I didnt actually get a singular bite out there despite it being in nature! Bring some deet and you should be fine. We were also upgraded to a nicer room!

It felt like a wellness retreat in the jungle. The property and rooms were absolutely stunning. Staff were very friendly. Very close to all shops, cafes, beach in Unawatuna.

“Fantastic!”

I loved the fact that you are so in nature in this hotel. Waking up to the sound of monkeys and birds was the highlight! The hotel is beautifully decorated and made with old wood, you feel like you’re staying out in nature. Even being on the main road, you don’t hear a thing! The staff are very friendly and I would come back :) also the wifi is excellent!

Beautiful environment and design of the property, a real oasis and very helpful staff

Perfect stay for nature lovers who still want to stay in the city center. We stayed in the Studio and as we walked in it was an instant wow factor, pictures don’t do the justice how beautifully designed the room is. As a birdwatcher I absolutely loved staying on a swing near the pond and watching kingfishers hunt. There are so many birds, palm squirrels and monkeys, so tranquil. But as it comes, if you enjoy nature at day, you get to enjoy it at night too 😁 yes it is loud at night and I did wake up a few times due to some creatures screaming on the roof, but it’s all part of fun. You also have a lot of mosquitoes due to the pond, so make sure to use repellent thoroughly and you will be fine. The owner and the team were super friendly. I loved this stay and would recommend it.

Great location in unawatuna, close to the restaurants/bars and the beach. The rooms look really charming and have everything you need. You get a lot of value for money.

“Beautiful, peaceful stay!!”

Lovely interior and design. Also even though the hotel is on the main road through unawatuna it feels like a little hide away. There is a quite garden and you don’t notice that you are in center of Unawatuna. Also the beds were really good and had a good breakfast!

I really enjoyed my stay at this hotel. It’s a very cute place with a lovely jungle atmosphere, which makes it feel special and relaxing. The whole setting is charming and beautifully designed. The staff were friendly and welcoming, and the location is great as well. Overall, I really liked the vibe of this hotel — such a sweet and unique place to stay.

“An little oasis with great wildlife”

In bustling Unawatuna this place is an oasis of calm. We had a balcony room which was lovely and well thought out with lots of thoughtful finishing touches. Bed was super comfy and good shower though the bathroom door isn’t a proper door so earplugs for ablutions if you’re not too familiar with your travel companion! We loved watching the monkeys who sometimes landed on our roof!

Eco-friendly, designed in armony with its surroundings. Lovely looked after gardens. Very convenient location. Excellent value for money.
