Everything about our stay at Makulu Safari Camping was fantastic. The staff were so helpful, Ayon made us feel very welcome, Pradeep cooked the yummiest dinner and breakfast and Pathum took us on a great safari where we were lucky to see lots of animals. Camping might not be for everyone but this was a highlight of our Sri Lanka trip.

“If you really want to get away from the hustle and bustle then this is the place for you.”
Very scenic and peaceful setting by the river and surrounded by cane fields. The staff went out of their way to be helpful and arranged a safari for us and also a trip to the elephant orphanage. The tents were large and had ensuite sections. The food served at breakfast and dinner was plentiful and good.

Beautiful, serene and peaceful location, immersed in nature. Very well equipped and comfortable camp site. Staff were super attentive and the dinner was spectacular, by campfire and delicious. They organised a really good safari to Uda Walawe too.

“Would highly recommend this place!”
The location, the tents, the food and the staff were excellent. A lovely rustic place to stay! Really enjoyed the night walk, the canoe ride as well as the sounds of the jungle at night. The tents were incredible apart from it being really hot and give you the true feeling of being close to nature. The staff is very prompt and attentive and we really enjoyed the local food cooked with ingredients from the neighbouring areas.

“An absolute MUST”
Incredible location - really feels like you're in the jungle. Do yourselves a favour and ask for dinner (around 30 USD for two people), because it quite literally was the best food we had in our entire trip. And they really put on a spectacle with a bonfire and gas lamps to make the campsite come alive in the evening.

“Thoroughly recommend, just sit & watch”
Amazing location, great staff & incredible tours by foot at night and on the river in the afternoon. Highlight was seeing a crocodile launch itself out of the water trying to catch birds & seeing a chameleon on the river tour.

“Very friendly place in the nature!”
Amazing place in the nowhere between sugarfeelds, on a beautiful river. So warm welcoming staff, very very friendly and helpful. We did the river tour, just in front of our tent - and we loved it so much. A quit ride on the water with many birds and water buffalos crossing the river- pure nature experience. Dinner is served every evening in a safari like bonfire atmosphere! And we booked a full day safari Tour with Makulu. A perfect day, with a lot of time, many many outstanding moments with elephants, crocodiles, … And in the end, our very helpful guide ‚Sanluca‘, managed to find a leopard. We saw the leopard close by, crossing the street infront of us. Perfect experience for us as a family!

“Memorable stay”
Memorable stay at Makulu Safari camping. The dinner / food was absolutely incredible. The staff were also really lovely. The bonfire was so cool! We booked the Safari directly with the campsite and it was such a magical experience. We did two nights stay, although I think one night is enough.

“A nervous system reset, immersed in nature with the perfect hosts!”
Honestly, the stay couldn't have been any better - it was perfect! Being immersed in nature like that is so healing and calming. My partner and I felt completely relaxed from the moment we arrived. The two guys running the place made us feel so at ease; they were warm, gentle souls who were always offering a cup of tea or an opportunity to explore. We absolutely loved the night walk and the boat trip. Although we were only there for two nights, we would have loved to stay longer just to sit, exist, and be, reading a book and listening to the sounds of nature around us. Food and dinner setting was so beautiful.

Peaceful place to stay in the middle of the jungle. Host arranged a safari for us. We also had an exceptional romantic dinner with a great atmosphere prepared by Chana. I got a food poisoning in Ella at the previous place we were staying - and Chana was really kind and helpful and prepared a ginger tea for me and reassured me that in case of any need, they can take me to the doctor, so I felt safe there. Highly recommended place, want to come back one day :)

“An experience we'll never forget”
The experience at Mukulu safari blew us away. We changed our travel plans so booked Mukulu at the last minute, and are so glad we did. Nestled in a remote part of Udawalawe, you camp in huge tents by a beautiful river, and get to go on a wonderful boat ride before dinner. We were lucky enough to have a herd of water buffalo get in the water alongside us - an experience we'll never forget. Dinner was fantastic and lit by firelight, and we then enjoyed a night walk to spot nearby wildlife. The team at Mukulu made our stay so special, would recommend it to anyone wanting something a bit different when visiting Udawalawe. We had a safari booked already so didn't book via Mukulu, but they do offer this.

“Amazing experience with an excellent safari!”
Makulu was a great experience, and very different to the places we had stayed at before which made it even more special. The staff were very welcoming as soon as we arrived and were always willing to help us with any queries we had. They were very polite too. The tents were more sturdy than what I thought they might be and had plenty of space for your luggage. The bed was very comfy (probably one of the comfiest I had stayed in!) We had arranged a 6-hour safari with Makulu and wow! I am so glad we did. Our driver (apologies I have forgotten their name now!) was exceptional, he spotted things miles off when other jeeps were just driving past. He had amazing knowledge of plants, wildlife, Sri Lanka, everything! Honestly one of the best experiences we had in Sri Lanka and would highly recommend. We also arranged lunch and dinner with Maluku which was great - there was loads of it and super tasty! Overall, Makulu was such a special stay for us and provided us with memories that will last a lifetime. Thank you so much.

“The most amazing place and very sweet people❤️”
Loved Everything about this camp. The tent is big and there is also a bathroom with a toilet and shower inside the tent. It’s beautiful located along a river where buffaloes walks around on the other side. We went on a little boat trip with the host, so beautiful with birds and flowers. In the evening they made lovely food for us and we all sat in small family table with fire around. And after dinner they took us on a night walk teaching us about all the spices and local thing. Jus 30 min but really sweet nightwalk. We took a 12 hours safari which can recommend if touchable the time. In the morning at 6 am every body are going but after lunch must people go back and we had the pork almost to ourselfs and all the animals. Very rich on animals. We saw many elephants, very close up, croc 🐊, Buffalo, eagle , parrots, many peacocks, deers, lizards, monkeys, and many many more. Our driver arranged from the camp new so many things about the animals and he nature..
