“Comfortable Japanese stay in a lovely historical, quiet and friendly town.”
A 100 year old Japanese style Ryokan, Sleep on a futon with a bean pillow. Stairs to room, hot private bath you can use downstairs, delicious traditional breakfast.Friendly staff. I recommend visiting Komien Kamiryo chaho cafe close by, run by a Japaneese and French couple. Quiche, cakes and coffee are top notch! Zara tea is very nice and you get to try it in your room.

A lovely traditional Ryokan in the most amazing location. The staff were beautiful and the food was delicious. There are also some great coffee shops in the area and huge Koi Carp swimming in the streams in the village.

Very characterful room and hotel and great food; we felt more immersed in Japanese culture than at any other time on our trip so far. Incredibly helpful and kind manager who ran after us to give us my wife’s clothes she left in the wardrobe on our last day

“Fabulous”
It is a beautiful ryokan offering a warm welcome and exceptional service. It is a wonderful way to experience traditional Japanese hospitality. It is located a short walk from the station. The room was cosy and en suite, however, we also enjoyed the 'onsen style' bathing area. It was also lovely to have the opportunity to wear a tradtional Yukata to dinner. Our evening meal was exceptionally good and we were very grateful that our vegan requests were able to be so deliciously accommodated. We had a very memorable stay!

“Our room was excellent, the breakfast was superb and the proprietor charming.”
This is traditional Ryokan accommodation. Our room was excellent, with a view out to a beautiful small garden. The room was tidy and tastefully decorated. The facilities were good, with separate toilet and a bathroom with a large tub and separate shower. The breakfast was absolutely superb. A traditional Japanese meal, beautifully presented. We were sorry that we did not arrange to dine there too. Note that there are not many other dining opportunities in Tsuwano in the off season. The proprietor was extremely helpful and pleasant, and made our stay (2 nights in March) most enjoyable. Our lack of Japanese language was not a problem.

A very traditional Japanese accommodation in a very traditional little town. The location is quiet but close to everything. The house is exceptionally clean and the owner really works very hard to take care of her guests, to make sure they have an exceptional stay. We did not have dinner but the breakfast was delicious. Overall a lovely stay.

Located close to the historical street in Tsuwano. The food was delicious with all kinds of fresh local dishes. Both dinner and breakfast time was flexible which was helpful. Staff was very kind and helpful. The room is simple authentic ryokan style, with futon bed. The public bath is also great to relax after exploring town. For an authentic ryokan experience in the countryside, the price is correct and reasonable.

“Excellent value for money, wonderful Japanese hospitality and food in a historic mountain town.”
Tsuwano is a fascinating historic town in the mountains of South Western Honshu. It now has a brand new train station which is probably less quaint than the old one I read about. Noren Yado Meigetsu was fabulous! We were greeted by our hostess and directed to the parking next door. She attended to our every need upon arrival and the women in our group were invited to dress in yukata for dinner. It was so special because she helped us dress with a properly reinforced obi too! Dinner was an amazing array of delicacies, including matsutake mushrooms because we were there in autumn. Breakfast was huge and traditional. The onsen tub is small, essentially private, so needs to be booked and was very pleasant. Sleeping is on traditional futon in a very quaint tatami room. The ryokan is beautifully maintained, and our hostess waved us off the next day. Highly recommended.

“A beautiful and hospitable traditional guest house.”
Noren Yado Meigetsu is a traditional Japanese style guest house in a beautiful old building. Our room was very spacious and comfortable, the staff were very friendly and helpful and the meals were exceptional. The salmon cooked in foil was the best dish we have had so far in Japan. A great place to stay!

“Wonderful ryokan experience”
This was an excellent hospitality experience from beginning to end. It's a traditional ryokan in a side street that can be a little hard to find. We were warmly welcomed with effusive and helpful service on a rainy afternoon. Our spacious room was a gem with a lovely view of the courtyard. Breakfast was amazing - graceful service, presentation was a work of art, and the food was delicious. It was an hour-long cultural immersion. The locally sourced roasted green tea was such a highlight that we bought packets to take home with us.
