Housed in a historic former primary school, Katakuri no Yado offers simple Japanese-style accommodation featuring natural hot spring baths. I really appreciate that the staff/chef prepared vegetarian meals for me. They took dietary needs carefully by confirming what I can and cannot eat. They are all very nice.

We came for Echigo-Tsumari art festival. Before it is re-designed as a hostel, it used to be a junior high school in rural area. We were surprised the whole building is super clean and it was fun to sleep in a room used to be a classroom. We were satisfied with dinner and breakfast, meals are made heartily with local ingredients. Staffs are nice :)
