Nice place in Slovakia. Due to our journey planning, it was the best choice between sightseeing and a place to sleep. Simple breakfast, but acceptable for the money.

We had a confirmed booking and arrived after a long day on the bikes. The guy at the desk refused to let us keep our clean, high-end road bikes in the room and pointed us to some sketchy garage in the forest. When we asked — very politely — if there was really no other option, he just said “goodbye” and walked off, leaving us standing there with no place to sleep. No help, no explanation, nothing. We had to ride in the dark to the next town. Zero respect for guests. Absolutely disgraceful attitude.

I chose Penziun Ustie because accommodation costs at Jasna, where we skied, are astronomical. While it's almost a 90-minute drive to Jasna, not something I'd choose to do midwinter (the road goes over a pass) more than once, thiss was perfect for us. Located off the main highways, which are heavily trafficked, it's quiet - and this is of foremost importance to me. The room we stayed in is a comfortable triple, and the bathroom is very modern. Wifi is good, but the small tv is not smart and offers only a few Slovak channels and a USB port. Breakfast is offered at €4 per order. In this off-season, the restaurant on the premises was not serving food at night, but apparently the bar is open and there's a pool table. An adjacent building houses a swimming pool, closed for winter. Note: reception working hours are from 15:00-22:00, though staff are on the premises for breakfast. Note also that Ustie does not accept cards for payment (either credit or debit), but transfers to their account (if an EU bank) are simple, and of course cash is accepted. You will be required to transfer 50% of the room charge to secure your reservation (though I am unsure if this is one night, as we stayed 2, or 50% of the entire stay).

Very good location close to the Orava Lake, as well as another larger city Namiestovo. Walking distance to some higher hills easy to climb but with very good views. Perfect place to stay for some sport activity near by as well as to go sightseeing deeper in Slovakia.

Penzion is situated in very calm area, far away from any noisy places. We had family room which was very spacious, beds were comfortable. Maybe the place has it's age, but it has it's own climate which I personally like more than all those hotels all with the same style. In the room everything worked well, bathroom was also spacious and clean. They have nice restaurant with very tasty beer and very good pricing. It is also close to the Lake and the Dam. As for the price we paid for the whole family and the dog it was just very good.
