Newly renovated in 2022, Kobayashiya blends the history and tradition of Japan with the modernity. Guests are welcomed by a luxurious new lobby, decorated in earthen wall. Some guestrooms feature washi wallpapers and selected hand crafted Japanese pottery. This successful blending of modern and traditional styles is a Kobayashia's key approach that ensures both comfort and cultural continuity. The main building was constructed and opened after the Hokutan earthquake (1925) and it registered as a Tangible Cultural Properties of Japan (Registered in 2015). A free pass for the 7 public baths in Kinosaki Onsen is provided for all guests. Guests can reach Kobayashiya from Kyoto Station in 150 minutes via express train. A direct express train from Osaka Station takes 170 minutes, while a direct express train from Himeji Station takes 110 minutes.

A very nice traditional-style hotel. There are a few private onsens available. Staff was very nice and helpful. Dinner and breakfast were great (if anything, there was too much food - very difficult to try everything for dinner). Kinosaki-Onsen is very small and all the public onsens are just a few minutes walking away. We came by car and parking was arranged a few streets away, a helpful employee showed us the way and took our luggage to the hotel. Highly recommended.

Location of the ryokan was great. Really enjoyed the private onsen rooms. Breakfast was huge, although the pancakes were dry.

“Amazing stay in Kobayashiya”
Wonderful 2 night stay in this hotel. Relaxed, quiet and warm atmosphere in the whole building. Very attentive to details (coming back after dinner, get into the futon and find a warm pack inside by your feet was just a wow...!!): slection of yukata, choice of western/Japanese bfast, amazing dinner, spotless onsen (which are private for you to enjoy 😉)... But this would be nothing if not accompanied by a GREAT customer service: every single staff member was excellent to us (dinner, breakfast, giving directions, interacting and chatting with us...). I hope the manager (who happened to introduce himself in person by dinner time) takes this into account. Having said all that, the atmosphere in the village in the evening was just amazing: dozens of ppl walking around in their yukatas ready to enjoy any of the 7 onsen you can use for free staying in Kobayashiya. All in all, will come back for sure. Thanks to all of you.

“Perfect stay to experience the onsen town!”
We had a fantastic stay! It was a great way to experience an onsen town and a Ryokan. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful - shout out to Abby and Edward. The location was great as it was a short walk from the train station and very close to many restuarants, shops and onsens.

“Great experience. Not to be missed!”
The traditional japanese breakfast was amazing and so interesting. We had a lovely lady help us get dressed properly in our Kimonos which was a very genuine experience.

“Fantastic service and accommodation. Cannot recommend highly enough.”
Extremely welcoming and accommodating staff. We had to leave very early the next morning to catch a train and they made sure that we had a lovely breakfast regardless. As well as this, they upgraded our room for no extra charge. The facilities were excellent and we had a wonderful time both in Kobayashiya and around Kinosaki Onsen.

“Wonderful”
Beautiful ryokan experience right by the river. The food was fantastic, and the private baths were luxurious and lovely. I want to highlight how great the staff were. My partner unfortunately felt unwell when we arrived - Abbi and the chef were really kind and went out of their way to cook a really nice rice porridge for her when her appetite was not great, despite it being during a busy dinner service, which made her feel a lot better!

“Superb Ryokan blending traditional style with modern luxury and superb design.”
Superlative hotel in the heart of this onsen town. Eleventh-generation owner, formerly a digital artist has transformed this traditional ryokan with modern comforts and design, without compromising its timeless Japanese style. Truly exceptional food - traditional Kaiseki set meal with a modern twist. Superb breakfast. Excellent helpful staff. Three private onsen rooms. Our room had views over, and direct access to, a private Japanese Zen-style garden. Faultless.

“Beautiful and relaxing hotel”
The staff are so friendly. They gave us welcome drinks and we relaxed before checking in as we were a little early. The room was beautiful and we got to choose our own kimono to wear around. They even helped dress us as they are a little tricky to do yourself. There are 3 private Onsens to use which are first come first serve or you can go to the many public bath houses which the town is famous for. I loved that they have an app to tell you how many people are in the public ones so you can avoid if it gets too busy.

“Special experience”
Absolutely wonderful experience! This was our first time staying at a ryokan, and now the bar is set very high for our future stays. They brought our luggage, made the bed, dimmed the lights, etc. — maybe that’s standard for ryokans, but to us it felt so luxurious and special. The room was spacious and comfortable, and the food was abundant and delicious. We had the grilled crab in a ceramic pot for the first dinner and the crab hotpot for the second. There was so much crab, especially in the hotpot meal. The grilled crab turned out to be just an extra dish in the usual kaiseki set, and we also got it again in the hotpot meal, so if we had known, we probably would’ve skipped the grilled crab add-on. My advice: show up hungry — they really feed you well! We also had a lot of fun walking around the streets in yukatas and traditional geta shoes.

“I recommend everyone stay here if they are staying in Kinosaki!”
Everything. It was an amazing place to stay, I only wish we had stayed for more nights because one just wasn’t enough! The staff were amazing, they explained things to us so well when we first arrived about where everything was and how to use the private baths. We needed help with our yukata and a staff member came to our to assist us. The location was amazing and it was incredibly relaxing trying all the baths in the accomodation and in the town.
