The hotel was very clean and comfortable, and everything was well maintained. I especially enjoyed the bedroom, which was very cozy and relaxing. The location was also excellent, with many tourist attractions and convenience stores nearby. The breakfast was simple but enjoyable.

Towada backpackers is good value for money and very close to Lake Towada. It doesn't offer GF breakfasts, so I used the small kitchen upstairs. Be warned, there is only a small corner shop in the town, that only has the very basics. I couldn't find paracetamol for example. It is right next door to a hotel with a fabulous onsen that you can access for ¥500. I never had to use the backpackers' bathroom for that reason! I had hired a car, and there was ample parking out the front. Public transport is patchy, so I would recommend hiring a car.

Big social hangout/dining room. It is cosy and inviting for social interaction! They request you to make your own bed, which at this price (and given it's a hostel) is totally okay!

“Great backpackers hub”

Espectacular location which allows you to do things like the gorge walk while having your base here. It's also very nice they freely borrow bikes. We went up up a mountain to a beautiful viewpoint, and then explore other sides of the lake. So much beauty in this región.

Really nice big hostel, with private parking and really great location. Short walk to the lake and also not too far from Oirase Gorge for a day of walking along the river. Also free breakfast which is always nice! Would recommend it and definitely come back!

Staff,localisation, price

The dinner of barayaki was very good. There was also a little breakfast of toasts and cereal.

In general clean, the basic breakfast was ok. Beds had curtains that were ok, not ideal though. Staff was ok friendly. Everything has a bit of a camping vibe, it's not the typical neat japanese hotel or hostel.

Simple room in a rustic guesthouse in Yasumiya. The location is great, close to Lake Towada with its restaurants and sights, and the bus station around 5 minutes on foot. The barayaki set dinner was also good value, especially given the lack of dinner options nearby.

Location is very close to the lake and to the main bus stop. Breakfast was very satisfying considering the price I paid for the night.

It has high spirit of backpackers. Many who stay come to walk the Oirase trail. Staff are helpful but have rather limited English. Good cheap dinner meet our requirement as no restaurants open in the evening. Food from convenient store is no better option.
