What an amazing location - the. Oat ride there and back was great fun. The hotel itself well exceeded my expectations . Very stylish . Rooms were minimalist but stylish. The very large ceiling fan kept us cool - no noise from neighbouring rooms - gardens are beautiful and meticulously maintained . Saw so much wildlife on site - iguanas, crazy Montazuma birds, humming birds ( including baby in a tiny nest, parrots, lizards etc. Loved it

The hotel grounds are absolutely beautiful and well-maintained. The breakfast was excellent and very tasty. A big plus was the free drinking water provided by the lodge. The location right by the water is stunning and very peaceful.

The location is superb! When you arrive by boat and step on the dock it feels like paradise. The pool and facilities are great. By a slow walk (with a 4y old) it is only 20 min walking to the city center. You don’t want to do that with luggage, but when going out for dinner is perfectly fine. Breakfast is great! The staff is also friendly and facilitating.

Fab location and beautiful grounds!

The staff were exceptional — quick to respond, highly efficient, and very well organized. On arrival, we were welcomed with a refreshing drink and cold towels, which immediately made us feel welcome. Everything was arranged smoothly and quickly: the restaurant, pool, tours, boat from La Pavona, and parking. Excellent service. We also really liked the setting itself — a lovely complex with covered walkways (very thoughtful in a place where it often rains), cozy wooden design throughout, and even a hammock in front of the room. A very enjoyable place to stay.

The whole experience was fantastic, from start to finish. The transfer from San Jose, the excursions, the staff, location, accommodation, food were all fantastic. An amazing, immersive experience that was truly unforgettable. I have to mention our guide Piero who was knowledgeable, passionate and enthusiastic. What a legend.

Breakfast is delicious, truly. Luxurious & generous with vast choice, mainly buffet both hot & cold but also an egg station. The pool is beautiful & bijou. Pool drinks & snacks were reasonable, with kind, quick & helpful service. Highly recommend the white sangria & ceviche. The decor of the lodge is lovely & unique, with lots of quirky surprises around all corners. Loved the little frog garden & the furniture in the reception area. Our welcome was fantastic with a much needed cold towel & complimentary, refreshing juice drink. While we were not told about this, the property is actually huge. We recommend going for a walk in the gardens where you can spot plenty of wildlife including hopefully a sloth or 2! The birds in the area are awesome - great time spent here lying by the pool, watching them all fly by. Our kayak tour was really fun, made even better because we got lucky & were the only people on this tour, so it was completely private. Overall a very good, relaxing stay.

This is tropical paradise - genuinely. You won't regret making the trip to Tortuguero. We used the hotel's transfer service from San Jose and it was so well thought out and brilliant! Excellent and engaging guides and comfortable vehicles / boats. You get to break your journey for breakfast en route and as you travel (both my land and boat), the team are on the look out for wildlife to show you. Some of our best wildlife moments in the whole of the 3 weeks we spent in Costa Rica, were on this transfer journey. You are greeted on arrival with a cooling drink etc. and given a bit of an orientation talk. After getting your keys, the fun can begin. The twin room we had was a nice size. It provides all the necessary - a nice, well fitted, clean bathroom (wet room style), a nice room with a good ceiling fan. There is a little storage in the room and a lovely hammock and chair on the veranda. The facilities are lovely - the reception area is breezy, decorated with beautiful flowers and there's chilled drinking water provided there. The restaurant, bar and lounge, pool area and chairs overlooking the canals are all nice places to relax. There is a frog farm on site as well. The property was visited by a sloth, toucans and numerous other wonders whilst we were there. The caribbean sea is just out the back and you are short and pleasant walk to Tortuguero visit (you can also get a taxi boat). The tours organised by the team were really good fun (shout out to Freddy!) and generally, it was just a wonderful few days in the sun, surrounded by nature. We did the nature walk / trail you can access from the property and general had a lovely time.

Spacious rooms, friendly staff that arranged breakfast to go for us due to our early morning tour, great facilities in pool area and walking distance to the village.

The stay and experience from start to beginning was absolutely incredible. Absolutely loved our stay here! The comms before we even got there was great. We booked a transfer by the hotel which arrived promptly, was really comfortable and included lunch on the way - the driver and host were so lovely and shared lots of info about Costa Rica and the animals we might see. Whilst we were waiting for our boat to the lodge, we saw spider monkeys, frogs and massive spiders - highlight of the trip which there were many! The boat ride in itself was so much fun, we saw even more animals, and at the end we were greeted by the team with some refreshments. Out villa/hut was comfortable, really enjoyed waking up to natural light and the sound of birds. We did a tour around the property on the first day and we spotted a sleeping sloth! The town is walkable nearby (~15mins) and you can get a water taxi back at night. The sea isn't swimmable but the pool at the lodge is perfect. We had lunch and dinners in the town to mix it up. They also have cold drinking water at reception to fill up water bottles, and they do great negronis. Honestly couldn't fault our experience and stay and hoping to come back again!

Mawamba Lodge was a lovely stay. The facilities, in the room and including the pool and bar area, were lovely and very accessible. The staff were all very friendly too and it was very comfortable.

Absolutely beautiful resort located in such a remote corner of the Earth. We genuinely were sat a couple of times admiring our view saying that this place was a piece of paradise. Staff could not do enough for you, all were very kind and responsive, even the cleaner as we were leaving in a rain shower asked if we needed her to run to reception to get some umbrellas. Katonga floating restaurant was a go to, totally unique experience I doubt that will be replicated. The canoe tour that was arranged by the hotel was a great experience which we would recommend. The food overall was delicious and not too overpriced, in a lovely ambient restaurant which felt was in the heart of the rainforest. We saw a variety of different animals without even trying to spot. Overall, fabulous.

Beautiful location, within walking distance of the village (about 10 mins) but far enough away to feel like your in the middle of the wild jungle. Beautiful lodges that are very clean. Pool, bar and restaurant areas are really well kept and good to relax in after exploring. Also really good tours that the hotel runs. 100% recommend!

“A good intro to Tortuguero”

Gardens were beautiful. Staff were helpful . Food was good . Trips they organised - nightwalk and early morning boat tour were good with Pierro as a guide .
