The staff at this lodge was amazing! Food was well organized and tasty. We booked a tour and had a really nice tour guide. The view om the water was lovely and the rooms were correct.

“Great hotel in lovely tortugero.”
Nice hotel with a garden and pool at the riverfront. We enjoyed the pool and the calmness of the rooms. Food in the evening was great and reasonably priced. (Menu for 18$) Tortugero was one of our most favourite stays in Costa Rica. We loved to see a turtle coming to the shore to lay eggs.

“Baula is close to the town, easy to get there, but costly. I don’t think I will be staying again.”
First, the staff was very friendly and helpful. The surroundings are nice as well and a fine swimming pool. The beds were comfortable. We only had breakfast there, which was just fine. Nothing special. They have bo menu card only buffets for every meal. Don’t know about lunch and diner. A tip: If you come to Tortuguero from La Fortuna and you have arranged a shuttle, it is first by car and then by boat from La Pavona. It should a be in the shuttle price, the will bring you to the ‘main’ port of Tortuguero. From there take a watertaxi to Baula (2000 colones p.p, one ride) No need to buy the boat ticket from la Baula. If you come from Puerto Viejo by shuttle, they will drop you at Moins. From there on it is also a boat, for about 3 hours. You will be dropped at the same small harbour of Tortuguero. Maybe you are lucky and the captain will bring you to Baula. If not, take a watertaxi.

“Location doesn't correspond to description. Poor staff attitude. Basic rooms”
Unless you're looking for hotel/resort life (which in any case I'd choose other option), if you're staying in Tortuguero you should target to stay in the village, This hotel is not in Tortuguero village and this is the biggest drawback. The hotel sits in the other bank of the channel and you require constant access to taxi boats to get to the village. Each trip costs 4 USD per person (about 5 minutes). The hotel staff gave us a warm welcome, but immediately started pushing us to make decisions for meals and tours, warning that it could get overbooked. Usually in town you'll get much better options for tours with official local guides and less expensive (in a family of 5 we saved 95 USD for a turtle tour). You'll also have plenty of better options for meals in the village, including 2 higher end restaurants. The staff mood changed dramatically to neutral as soon as they realized I arranged my own tour packages, my own meals and transport. the swimming pool are is nice. If you put appart the fact that the hotel isn't in the village, the location is still very pretty as most of all other places in Tortuguero.
