“Kind host and a beautifully designed room”

The room was beautifully designed, and though it was small, the use of the space was very good. Despite being a 'semi-private' room, I felt like I had a lot of privacy. The host was very kind, spoke great English, and made me coffee. The location was convenient, with supermarkets, a coin laundry, and train station all nearby.

Everything was perfect, and the host Masa is so friendly and nice person :) Definitely would recommend this guesthouse to stay while in Tokyo, 10/10!

Location and hygiene

Masa-san was very friendly and helpful. The semi-private room was very enjoyable and felt more personal than a traditional hotel.

Sumida Nagaya was a very lovely stay. Masa was so kind and helpful, and the accomodation is very close to a train line that it was super quick and easy to get into Tokyo city, whilst providing a quieter room to go back to at the end of the night. The rooms are lovely, quite spacious and very clean.

“Great Stay”

I really enjoyed my Sumida Nagaya and Masa (the host) was very kind and helpful throughout my stay! He runs the business with his wife, who was very friendly too. The property is around an 8-10 minute walk to Hikifune station and also had this lovely bakery outside the station called 'My Bakery'. The property was well maintained and the communal areas were cleaned everyday. I stayed in the semi-private room and the bed was very comfy and had all the required amenities that I needed. It is also close to Tokyo Skytree shopping centre. The area also felt safe to me.

Super friendly and patient host, and a very cute location in a calm beautiful area. The room is very traditional and the bed is so comfortable and cozy. Would love to come back to!

“Amazing stay”

My 2nd time staying at Sumida Nagaya! Masa is a perfect host. The accommodation had everything we needed and is situated in a lovely neighbourhood.

Super accommodating hosts, speaking very good English, they even received a heavy package for me when I was out. Very clean, easy instructions for rubbish segregation Equipped with modern facilities despite the house' age, including fridge and microwave Separate storage space with a lock (very needed since room was rather small) Futon-like bed nails the Japanese atmosphere

If there were 6 stars to give, I would give 7. I almost regret leaving this comment since I alone want to be in knowlege of this accomodation, but I leave this comment out of my appreciation for Masa. The service and facilities were all-encompassing, and I was even provided medication for my swollen foot after having informed Masa of my condition. It was a great experience and I look to enjoy the place more fully on my next occasion. Thank you, Masa.

“Calm and peaceful and cozy”

The room is beautiful. When you are walking and exploring all day it is so peaceful to return to. Masa is an amazing host, very caring. They have built a lovely place. And Yuri’s lasagne if you get a chance you must try it, best lasagna I have ever had. Thank you for a lovely stay.

We loved our stay in Sumida. This was my 8th visit to Tokyo, and Sumida has become one of my favourite neighbourhoods. Masa-san was a fantastic host — warm, responsive, and incredibly thoughtful. We couldn’t have asked for better hospitality. We loved everything.

Great little place with old beams, modern amenities, traditional tatami mats, attention to detail and hostel conveniences. I especially liked the charming and less touristy Sumida neighbourhood. Enjoying Ramen at a very local restaurant was one of our highlights in Tokyo.

Masa and his wife are exceptional hosts. The place is very peaceful in a calmer part of Tokyo close to multiple underground stations. The place has very unique and peaceful vibe. Minimalistic, modern, functional. With lot of tips what to do in Nagoya district and beyond. Free tea and water is great. Cutlery for own food available. And we had a great peaceful discussion with Masa, so you can ask him and he will always help. Digital Nomad ready - 100+ Mbit connectivity.
