Beautiful house and a great breakfast—I loved the papaya juice! The hosts were very accommodating; they organized a safari for me at a very reasonable price, allowed me to charge my electric tuk-tuk, and suggested other activities like night bird watching. I wasn't interested in the latter, but there was no pressure at all—they have a very relaxed "if you want it, it's here; if not, no problem" attitude, which I really appreciated. The nearby lake, Debarawewa, is a real gem and offered the best photo opportunities I found around Tissamaharama. You can even see peacocks walking on the roof of the house! It’s only a 5-minute drive to town or the "Flying Foxes" tree (where bats wake up and fly off at sunset). Just a heads-up: don't swim or get too close to the water, as crocodiles live in the lake.

Really nice surroundings, easy to watch the birds and other animals, good breakfasts (omlettes, fruits, dhall, toasts, juices), comfortable beds, very helpful staff, good place to go to the safari. We recommend it!

“Nature place to enjoy”

Big room, comfortable beds, beautiful view, private peacock sound from the rooftop during the day, good food. We prebooked the Safari in Yala, väbut the hotel offered it cheaper.

The service was above.. Every time I was really really tired..the manager appeared with a nice fresh fruit juice..that was so great 🙏 lovely area with a beautiful lake in front..They provide every kind of service that you may need..

The Staff was very friendly and welcoming. We loved the area with all the different birds. Also the Safari they organized worked great. If you are there, consider Bundala Nationalpark instead of Yala if you wanna escape the crowds.

“A wonderful place”

My wife and I loved the place! The staff were wonderful, very friendly, always giving us free smoothies and fruit from their garden. It's the best place we've ever stayed in Sri Lanka. We would definitely recommend it.

“Great location for wildlife spotting, great value for money”

Lots of opportunities to spot wildlife in the garden and at the nearby lake on both sides of the property. Langur monkeys and many bird species in the garden. Between 6 pm and 645 pm many wetland birds fly over to roost for the night and hundreds of fruit bats leave their roost. It’s a great photo opportunity. Homestay has great home cooked food options. Very good value for money.

“A great place to stay in Tissamaharana”

A lovely property with a view of the lake. Lots of birdlife in and around the property. A short but pretty distance to town, easily done by foot, bike or vehicle. Our room was clean, spacious and comfortable with aircon, fan hot water and mosquito nets. Breakfast was delicious and large. Coconut pancakes were fabulous. Our host was attentive and helpful.

“Lakeside paradise”

Location, very close to the lake, quiet and peaceful. Large property with very pleasant and spacious areas for eating and relaxing. The 2 brothers were most welcoming and helpful. The breakfast was amazing and so well presented. We were taken to see the bats in the evening at no cost to us. Unfortunately we had to cut our stay short due to altered plans. We would not hesitate to stay at Hotel Bjrds View again.

Run by two lovely, kind, helpful & welcoming brothers, Samira & Indiga & tucked away outside of Tissa amidst a verdant garden. Delicious & plentiful SriLankan breakfast is included. Our room had a fan & aircon & good shower in the bathroom. Great communal balcony. Enjoyable trip to Yala arranged for us. Trees full of fruit bats about 15 mins walk. Loads of birdlife around.

Loved watching birds from the balcony. Access to the beach and the chance to see turtles was great! The food in the adjoining restaurant was great. Delicious curry.

It doesn’t get better than this! What a peaceful place to stay. Our hosts were charming, helpful and the food very generous and varied. We really looked forward to dinner time! The whole hotel is scrupulously clean and maintained to the highest of standards. We believe our tuk tuk driver was a relative who was charming , very helpful and drove carefully We didn’t want to leave! Thank you for making our four nights with you so special. It’s deep in nature but only a short tuk tuk ride to the town. The best of both worlds!
