The bed was very comfortable. The shower was excellent. The kitchen had the equipment needed to cook a meal. The apartment was spacious. We slept really well and there were no disturbances in the night. It was good value for money. The instructions to find the apartment and to get in were very clear. The apartment is set in lovely surroundings. Being able to park close by was great, even if you weren't able to use the engine heater (that would have been excellent if we had been able to, as it was a cold night).

Everything was perfect. Our stay exceeded our expectations. We felt like royals :) Instructions and overall communication was clear the moment we booked our stay. The bed was enormous and very comfortable. We had everything from glasses to plates, cutlery, minifridge to decaf caffe available. We felt at peace.

Lovely place to stay. Easy check-in. We stayed in the house next to the castle (upper floor), which was very nicely decorated. From the inside you get the 'castle vibes' and from the windows you see the castle and the amazing big garden / property. Everything we needed was available at the house, including great beds. The garden and forest / nature behind are lovely to make a walk, and the pretty new little restaurant close-by is a nice option for a coffee with cake and we saw they also provide good lunch options.

A unique and peaceful experience! The self-service apartment was clean, well-equipped, and offered a lovely blend of privacy and historic charm. The surroundings were serene, making it a perfect getaway.

Very nice location! Our apartment was equipped with a dishwasher, a kitchen, and laundry. There were plenty of parking spaces as well. Two bedrooms with king-size beds, very soft and comfy.

“Don’t break the rules! Could be so nice, but is so unwelcoming.”

Much as it feels odd to express a view contrary to those so many reviewers who love this place, and much as it feels cruel to criticise the owners who presumably feel they’re trying so hard, it’s important for future visitors to hear the other side of the story. Yes, this place is in a beautiful setting, and yes, if you look carefully you can see that you’re not actually staying in the castle itself. But nothing quite prepares you for the fact that if you stay in the “Two bedroom villa” you’re basically underground. All the windows (which you’re not allowed to open, but we’ll come to that) are up at head height. And they all give you the view of an earthworm, level as they are with the surface of the lawn. But this wouldn’t matter, frankly, if it wasn’t for the lack of any feeling of “welcome” in the place. It starts with the message you receive before you arrive, telling you must strip the beds when you leave. Well OK, that’s unusual, but let’s go with it. But then it’s a much bigger surprise to find that, when you arrive late at night after a long drive, you actually have to MAKE the beds before you can sleep in them too! Seriously? Even this might be forgivable as a minor eccentricity (or perhaps local custom unfamiliar to overseas visitors more used to being looked after), until you make the mistake of reading the book of rules on the kitchen table. “Don’t open the windows.” What? “If you’re too hot, or too cold, you must contact us and we will adjust it.” Really? I’m not trusted to be in charge of my own temperature?? (I can guess why this is, by the way. It’s presumably because wild animals, or at least earthworms, will be able to wander in through what are, remember, ground-level windows. But why not EXPLAIN that, which would make the rule feel less like a parent scolding their child.)
