The location though is off the main road, it is easy to find within ample parking place. The property is beautifully decorated, clean and cosy. Lots of big windows allowing sunlight in and to look at the wonderful surrounding views. The room is well equipped, clean and comfortable. Our hosts cooked us the most healthy and delicious Christmas Eve dinner, served with grape wine. Happy to have chosen to spend our Christmas Eve at Polaris.

So happy we came across this little gem of a place. Tucked in at the end of a quiet private country lane, Polaris offered us a perfect base to explore Eastern Hokkaido. It is a very easy drive from the property to see Lake Mashu and Lake Kussharo and visit the Cranes in Tsurui. The lodge is small (but our room was very spacious), charming, pristinely clean, warm and welcoming. The moment we stepped into the lodge, noticed owners' great attention to detail. A lot of thought and care went into creating this lovely place: from a flowering coffee tree in the dining area to room amenities, to binoculars offered to enhance our birdwatching experience. Every morning we woke up to bird song and a fantastic snow view from our window. If you lucky, you will see a Shima-enaga, a gorgeous white Long-tailed tit native to Hokkaido, coming to say hello. Breakfast was sumptuous and delicious and multi-course dinner offered a few local specialties beautifully cooked and presented. The owners take a great pride of Hokkaido and will help you with your trip planning. If you like peace and quiet, privacy, dark sky away from resort crowds, this place is for you!

It was a very beautiful home. The hosts/staff were warm and attentive to our needs. Interior decor was cosy and comfortable, and place was very well maintained. It was the highlight of our stay and the owner and his wife, together with their cats made us felt welcomed and even prepared some information sheets on suggestions for our onward travels. It was truly a highlight of our trip here😊

I stayed with my boyfriend in Polaris during our trip to eastern Hokkaido. The pension is located in one area with amazing nature, close to  Lake Mashu and Lake Kussharo. The owners are very friendly and made us feel at home. They are very passionate about what they are doing and the pension is really cared of in every detail. They also gave us precise indications about famous and less known sightseeing destinations nearby. There were also two wonderful cats, they did not disturb and they were really a great company. We were able to see a starry sky with the owner's telescope and the owner took us a great photo with professional equipment. The dinner and the breakfast were also excellent and with many fresh local products. I would highly recommend Polaris and I would definitely go again.

Very nice lodge in a serene surrounding with committed hosts and tasty meals. Various sights are easily reachable by car and the hosts provided valuable guidance. Highly recommended.

Charming hosts and the cats.

The hotel is surrounded by grassland. The environment is quiet and make you feel calm and comfortable. The person in charge of the hotel is a couple. They are friendly ,warm and always ready to help. The two cats are very cute. The supplies, decorations and tableware in the hotel are the exquisite ideas of the couple. I look forward to visiting the hotel next time and I hope Ican see the starry sky.

One the best place we have ever stayed! The interior of the place is awesome! Very well maintained, can’t believe that they have opened since 2011. Everything was like newly renovated. We loved the room, very spacious room for 3 pax, that comes with bath and a huge toilet. We didn’t manage to see the milky ways as it was a little cloudy that night, but towards midnight, the stars that we saw was amazing! The hosts are very welcoming, breakfast and dinner was very good! And the 2 resident cats are so sweet… they come out to greet the guests, and then go back to their own room.. they don’t disturb and no meowing in the nights..

Very attentive and helpful owners who recommended places of interest to us, and printed coloured maps for us too. Excellent food, all homecooked too. Lady owner made special effort to cook more for my hungry kids, and they loved her cooking.
