Overview
Surrounded by mountains, lakes and the great wilderness of Hokkaido, Mashuko Youth Hostel offers simple accommodation with free WiFi access. Lake Mashu is a 16-minute drive from the hostel. Rooms are carpeted and equipped with heating facilities. All rooms are simply decorated and are strictly non-smoking. Bathrooms and toilets are shared with other guests. Guests staying at our hostel can use the coin laundry (fees apply), a sink, drinking water, coffee, tea, and green tea. Other facilities offered at the property include a shared lounge and luggage storage. At the front desk, guests can purchase laundry detergent, tooth brushes and razors. Our hostel does not currently serve meals, so please use a nearby restaurant or purchase at a nearby supermarket or convenience store and bring it to our hostel. In addition, you can use simple self-catering facilities such as a microwave oven, toaster, rice cooker, cutting board, kitchen knife, gas stove, and frying pan. Lake Kussharo is a 30-minute drive away, while Lake Akan is a 60-minute drive from the hostel. Kushiro Shitsugen National Park can also be drive to in 60 minutes. The nearest airport, Nakashibetsu Airport, is a 1-hour and 15-minute drive away.

We stayed in the cabin with 6 people and loved it! It was beautiful and comfortable and had everything we needed. The staff were great and really informative on where to eat, swim etc etc.

The staff is really kind and accommodating. The lounges are quite specious and comfortable. The hostel's location is ideal for day trips to the surrounding lakes and mountains.

“Don’t really like the place”
A bit ran down and it is inconvenience to have shower in the main building especially during cold weather .

The location was pretty good. Not far from "Downtown" by car and nice views from outside over region. Best Ramen dinner just down the road not far from intersection. Teshikaga Ramen Main Store. Very yummy!

The hostel is very spacious, and not too busy. I loved the coffee making space, and the kitchen was very well equipped. The laundry machines and dryers were very good! And most importantly, the hostel staff were incredibly welcoming and super helpful, from storing our luggage to booking a taxi for us on our check-out day. Would love to stay here again.

The heater worked well in the room. The location's okay if you want to go hiking, but there really isn't much other choice of accommodation in the area, so is that really a plus? We saw a crane from the window of our room; that was nice.

I wholeheartedly recommend the Mashuko youth hostel, the owner and his family do all the best to make your stay as comfortable as possible! They have vast knowledge about Asan park and it's neighbourhood, plus are very friendly and helpful. The location is ideal for hiking and if you want enjoy the wildlife - I saw a fox and deers a couple of times. It's ideal location to visit Mashu lake and climb the Mashu mount, however if you want to visit the other lakes: Kussharo and Akan I recommend renting a car or a mountain bike. Still I really enjoyed staying here and thinking about coming back here in future. Arigato gozaimasu!
