My wife and I had an amazing stay at Shino-san's accomodation, which is tucked away from the main road in a small hill. We also stayed at her other accomodation in Chikatsuyu - equally great. This one is worth the detour from the main route. On top of the lovely meals, I considered it a privilege to be able to stay in a 140-year-old house like this one. I admire Japanese carpentry and woodworking, and this house is a living example of many facets of the tradition - unreal to be able to live in it for a night. Wish we had more time here. Shino-san is also an amazing host, running a tight ship between her various accommodations and cafe, and also being very helpful.

“Superb host and beautiful place”
We just love Shinto-san for her hospitality and quality of service💕💕. This place is an oasis away from home and she is a superb genuine host despite her busy schedule. For me, this is a repeated visit and again she did not disappoint. She even help us in our search for same day luggage transfer service so that we can continue on with our trek. This is a beautiful well-loved house - with many well designed touches to enhance the staying experience for the guests. Her meals are also wholesome and tasty, substantial for the kumano kodo trail. We were truly lucky to enjoy her hospitality and place. Shinto san, you are the best!!☺️🙏

“Quiet, Beautiful, Full of Japanese Culture”
Shino is a helpful, nice lady. She helped us book the shuttle service, prepared dinner & breakfast & lunchbox. She patiently explains how to travel by bus from takahara to Chikastuyu. The food portion is larger than I expected. Also beer is served in the refrigerator, which is really happy to drink beer after a day's walk. In the guest house, there are some very cute Japanese style decorations. These details really add bonus to our experience. Moreover, this is a really good place to experience Japanese style tatami (sleeping on the ground). Here's some advantages of the location. First, few people walk on the small road from kumano kodo to the guest house, so there're LOTS of crabs on the road. I even met a small deer! Second, vending machine in kumano kodo's takahra resting area is out of drink on my travelling day. But vending machinese near the guest house is full, no need to worry about drinks anymore. Third, if you're travelling by bus, bus stop is near the guest house. This may be an advantage for tourists who can't walk so long.

“Lovely authentic house”
This stay is a 120 year old Japanese house which is amazing to stay in. It's authentic, yet very convenient and clean. On our first day of the Kumano Kodo trail we walked from Takijiri-Oji to this stay via Takahara. The second day we walked via Takahara to Chikatsuyu. Very good route if you ask us. The owner made us dinner, breakfast and a lunchbox which was super good food for a fair price. We would recommend :)

We stayed there one night in connection with hiking the Kumano-Kodo trail. The house was very charming and equipped with everything we needed. Shino is such a kind and helpful host. For example, we got a detailed description on how to find the house from the last stop on the day's hike. We also requested breakfast, lunch and dinner, and everything was delicious. If you are hiking the trail the following day, be aware that the walk is quite long and uphill from the house to the beginning of the trail, and some might want to consider taking a bus. Overall a wonderful experience, and we wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

Shino-san was prompt in her reply. I was able to check in on my own without any issue. Loved the interior and it transported me back to 1800s when the house was built. Food was good and on time. The property got everything I needed, including a washing machine, a hammock, heater etc.

“Ok, if you can’t find any other option on the Kumano Kodo.”
It is a beautiful house indoors in a very quiet but remote location. Food provided by the owner was very nice. She organised a car for us to take us onto the trekking trail. We arrived to the house by bus and the bus stop is 1 min away from the house, but it is far, far away from the trek. The owner wasn’t very accommodating, but nether less our stay was good.

“Wonderful authentic experience”
Shino is great, very easy instructions on how to reach her house as it is away from the Kumano Kodo. We liked the walk there and arriving at this lovely old japanese home was very welcoming. Then Shino arrived with the best food, very beautifully presented and delicious. We also appreciated the ride back to the trail the next day. Highly recommend this experience.
