“Very comfortable, but it was the food food food. And the wine.”
We have been enjoying Japanese food. At Kumano Winery Guest House Giovanni and Yutaka added an Italian flavor … and really good wines, a welcome addition to our travels so far. Our room had a little view patio with two chairs, a really pleasant feature. The shared bath and toilet facilities were only a few steps from our room, but really? Go there for the food.

“A must-stay before embarking on the Kumano Kodo!”
Delicious Italian food (more fine dining than pilgrim food!) and breathtaking views from this farmhouse in the mountains. We loved getting to meet and feed/cuddle the goats! It’s a long walk (downhill) from here to the Kumano Kodo trailhead, but the hosts are very helpful and can give you a lift down there in the morning

“Very specia rural stay with truly gourmet food”
Really special place run by a really friendly couple. The food is a true gourmet experience - having a top class chef cook an incredible multi-course meal just for the small handful of guests staying. An authentic traditional house with a lovely bath house built my the owner himself. Lots of fun animals outside to interact with. Highly, highly recommend - and stay two nights to enjoy more amazing food and soak up the calm atmosphere!

Great little farmhouse with wonderful hosts Giovanni and Yukata. The accomodation is clean and simple but the highlight was Giovanni’s cooking which was outstanding as he is a Michelin chef.

The hosts Giovanni and Yukata were outstanding hosts in their kindness and consideration of all of our needs from collecting us at Tanabe to placing out our shoes. The property is quirky with differing ceiling heights which is fun and the chickens, coasts and turkeys made it a real farmhouse stay. The food was delicious and innovative

Traditional farmhouse experience. Extremely helpful and wonderful hosts with an amazing dinner. The cheese they make is magnificent. If you have time you’re welcome to visit the farm itself where the goats are in Winter as well as see how they make their special cheese.

Giovanni & Yukata were wonderful hosts at their beautiful property in the hills outside of Tanabe. Our stay at the Guest House was a special treat to ourselves before walking the Kumano Kodo, and it did not disappoint. From the time Yutaka picked us up at Tanabe station, Giovanni's tour around the property, drinks on the terrace as the sun set, Giovanni's amazing 5 star meals showcasing their own and local produce, our traditional room in the farmhouse and being driven to the Kumano Kodo trailhead, what a truly wonderful experience. Giovanni and Yutaka are such welcoming hosts, passionate about their lifestyle, that they are keen to share with guests. Our stay at the Guest House was a highlight of our trip.

“One of the best Ryokan stay in Japan!”
Staying at Kumano Winery Guest House was probably one of the best ryokan stay I had so far in Japan. The family was extremely welcoming and gave me a lift before and after my stay to facilitate my trek during rain. The house was impeccable and well kept with a great onsen room. A plus was the incredible dinner! I highly recommend staying here if you are embarking on the Kumano Kodo trek to relax before/after your work.

Oh my god, where to start! The guest house is so adorable and so well taken care of. Then the fooooddddd. Oh my god, the food! Just incredible. I could indulge myself senseless on the cheese alone! Everyone was so friendly and welcoming, we really loved our time there and will 100% be recommending it to everyone who comes here!
