I had a really great stay at Greenwood Camp and can honestly recommend it. Everything was very well organized from start to finish, including my transfers and even a guided walk I asked for. The camp is very clean and well maintained. I stayed in a basic tent, but it was comfortable, the bed was good, and I slept very well. The food was consistently excellent, and the staff were amazing — super friendly, helpful, and easygoing. You immediately feel welcome. The owner is also very involved, incredibly helpful, and clearly cares a lot about the place and the guest experience. The safari was a highlight. My guide William was very knowledgeable, fun and easy to talk to. We entered the park right at 6:00 a.m., and he really put in the effort to show me as much wildlife as possible. The timing and pacing of the day were perfect, and we were back at the camp around 6:30. The location is a big plus. Being so close to the gate makes everything very relaxed, and even around the camp itself I saw animals, including a hippo in the river and some baboons. Overall, a very relaxed, well-run camp with great service and atmosphere. I’d happily stay here again.

“Nice stay close to Talek gate”

Lovely employees, beautiful surroundings and super close to Talek gate! We booked a room including (vegetarian) food and the food was very good and always more than plenty! Rooms got cleaned every day and towels and bed linnen changed every 2 days without us even asking for it. Accommodation is next to the river, loved sitting there to spot hippos, crocodiles, monkeys and impalas.

Where to begin…..we had the best stay at Greenwood Safari Camp. The staff are all so lovely, attentive and friendly. Magdy, the owner, is helpful, understanding and informative. He helped with our numerous requests, with no complaints, considering how unorganized we were. He looked after me and my partner and we shared lots of laughs and interesting conversations during our stay. Peninah looked after us around the camp, serving us breakfast, lunch and dinner and telling us interesting stories about Masai culture and history. She was incredibly friendly and made sure we were comfortable at all times. Our driver and guide, Jonathan, was fantastic. He made sure we saw lots of animals, including the Big 5, and took us on the adventure of a lifetime. Overall I had an amazing time at Greenwood. At an affordable price, the camp is clean, conveniently placed and comfortable. Considering the average price in/around the Mara this is one of the best deals available and I’m confident you won’t regret staying at Greenwood.

Greenwood safari camp is well located right at the entrance to Talek Gate of the Maasai Mara. The cabin was clean, quiet, and comfortable. Magdy and the team were so lovely and hospitable, ensuring that all our needs were met. Special shout out to the Chef who prepared the most delicious dinners!

Everything was incredible! From Magdy’s warm reception and help getting to the place, to everyone who works there. The food was delicious, the tents were amazing, they have a campfire you can enjoy at night, and above all the staff’s willingness to help and make you feel welcome I highly recommend it!

I am very lenient and I'll give this accommodation a 7 out of 10. The reasons are the following: the stuff is very polite and especially Penina and Dixon who run the kitchen doing their best - the food was very close to my tastes. The camp is located just outside one of the gates of the national park, so this is very convenient for the game drives. Our room was not big, but it was nicely decorated. A plus was the mosquito net in the bed.

Victoria, Dixon and Dan was amazing! Really nice people. We are not the best costumers, because we travel on a budget, but the place have all that you need to have the best experience! Thanks to the creew!

Incredible staff with little care to have fun and take care of us. Delicious food and impeccable service. The housing is simple, but sufficient. The accommodation is right next to the entrance to the park.

The owner Magdy and all the staff were fantastic, from the cook and the waiting staff, to the security guard keeping us safe at night. The food was fresh and tasty and came in generous portions. We saw lots of wildlife around the camp including a crocodile eating a baboon in the river! The river and camp made for great birdwatching too. We read several travel blogs before booking and Greenwood was mentioned time and time again as one of the best budget campsites and it certainly didn't disappoint.

Close to the Masai Mara gate. Stuff - Benjamin, Benina, Victoria and whole team - was really friendly and helpful. Food was really good.

“Great time in Talek”

The position is excellent, you can't get closer to Talek Gate. It's amazing to have animals wandering around the camp. The staff is very kind and the food is very very good.

The Greenwood camp is right next to the entrance of the safari park. Beautiful surrandings, you can watch hippos practicaly from the garden. The host Magdi extremly helpful, you could not ask anything that he would not do for your comfort. The dinner was mady by local masai cook, which was very tasty and big portion. Totally recommend this place if you looking for a peaceful time.

people are so nice here. breakfast, lunch and dinner... everything was included in our price and the taste was amazing. they take extra care of you here whenever you have problems. plus, you get to see animals even if you skip your safari to the reserve and rest at the camp.

I can really recommend this safari camp. It’s nice and clean, the people are amazing. Magdy (the owner) helped to organize transfer and game drive. They were also able to accommodate my dietary requirements.

“Fantastic stay”

Everything was fantastic. Magdy and his team are welcoming and caring hosts. The tents were spacious, the bathroom clean and the food was delicious. The organisation of the game drives was very good. Our driver Alex was knowledgeable and managed to get us to the best angles during all encounters, which was not easy as there were a lot of cars. All in all, a great camp for a fantastic price.

“Sweet spot for solo first time in the Mara”

After a lot of research, chose Greenwood Safari Camp for my 3 night, 2 day visit to the Masai Mara. This was a great experience as a solo traveller using the tents. Staff and manager Magdy were very friendly, who met us each morning before, and each afternoon after game drives, and at dinner. He knew our names before we arrived, and was very welcoming, and responsive on Whatsapp. I never felt like I was being pushed/guilted to buy or order more things. Location is incredible - in the park through the Talek Gate within 2 or 3 mins each morning, which maximised sleep before 6am game drives. I'd considered joining a group safari from Nairobi, but most of these stay at/near the Sekanani gate, which is very far away from the Mara River, where crossings are during the Great Migration - Talek is a sweet spot. Most of them only do a half-day drive on the first day, which simply isn't enough. By staying at Greenwood, it was easy to maximise the park fees by staying 3 nights, and game driving on 2 full days. Tents (there are 5) are installed and have a roof over them, with actual beds and comfy enough. Mosquito nets are not provided, so I'd recommend bringing your own and/or a repellent diffuser and/or actively wearing repellent. There's a light bulb and 2 power sockets that seemed to always be on, which was better than other campsites which only had limited hours. Bathroom and showers were shared, but clean and hot water present through firewood. Breakfast and lunch were packed and sufficient (would recommend bringing own snacks if you easily get hungry!), but dinner was fresh, filling and nutritious each night, with soup, salad, cooked vegetables, rice, a stew of some kind, and salad. When lunch went missing one day, Magdy was very apologetic and compensated for this. Game drives were great! Magdy was very flexible in allowing me to join with another group to share a vehicle and its cost, even though we'd separately pre-booked.

“A camp that feels like home”

The staff were beyond helpful. I never felt like anything was too much to ask and it was so lovely to see so many genuine smiles on their faces. We were so close to the park and Magdy was so helpful with helping us book our safari. The food was brilliant, you definitely won’t leave hungry. Thanks again for everything!

An truly wonderful place with the most fantastic staff. Very close to Talac gate. Short walk into town if you need to, ATM. Very comfortable bed, great shower, very quiet day and night. 3min walk to river where there's a Hippo family and a large group of baboons on the opposite bank. Food was plentiful and delicious. Very clean in room ,toilet and eating areas. Very enjoyable stay.
