Overview

Located in the deep green mountains of the Fukuchi Onsen hot-spring area, Yumoto Cyouza offers a hot-spring experience with traditional Kaiseki dining and free Wi-Fi throughout. Many of the spacious Japanese-style rooms include an old-style Iriori fireplace. Rooms at Yumoto Cyouza Ryokan feature a Japanese decor with sliding paper screens and a low table with floor cushions. Each room has an en suite toilet, an LCD TV and an electric kettle with green tea. Guests bathe at the hot-spring baths and sleep on a tatami (woven-straw) floor in Japanese futon bedding. Less than 5 minutes from Fukuchi Onsen bus stop via the free shuttle, the property is 11 km to Shin Hodaka Ropeway cable car and 41 km from JR Takayama Train Station. On-site parking is free. To use the free shuttle, call the ryokan. Three hot-spring baths can be used privately, simply by locking the door behind you (reservation not required). Shared indoor and open-air baths are also available. A free-use internet PC is on site. The Japanese set-menu breakfast and multi-course dinner are served at the dining room.

10/10. The place, the staff, the experience, all amazing. The private outdoor onsens are incredible and surrounded by nature. The structure of the building itself is beautiful, with huge wooden cross beams, a wood fire in the lobby with black bear and serow fur rugs to sit on. The Kaiseki ryori dinner was the highlight. The hospitality of the Japanese is next to none, our host was so fun and taught us some Japanese so we could appreciate the food and service in her language with some laughs. Everything about it was spectacular. The dining hall itself and how the the dinner was presented and cooked (flame) was so good. Much love from Canada!

Fairytale in the mountains

Everything. I can't emphasize enough how much I enjoyed my stay here. Staff went truly above and beyond to ensure that I had a great stay. When they couldn't explain something, they brought props and explained in other ways. The place itself is somewhat aged, but it adds charm and authenticity. It felt like stepping into a fairy tale / anime. That said - it is clean and well looked after. Food selection is authentic to the region. It helps to connect to what people actually eat around the area, their lifestyle and journey. Onsens selection is outstanding, and there are options open through late night and early morning, with a wide selection of private baths. Furthermore, there is some temperature variety in outdoor baths - and I enjoyed finding the one that fit me best. Close to the onsen area - there is also a hiking path to one of the mountains. It is a great 5-6 hour challenge, and allows you to take a picturesque view of this breathtaking area.

Live up to all my expectation of an onsen ryokan.

The Ryokan located in a calm and peaceful environment. Both interior & exterior looks great. Rooms are spacious and comfortable. I've tried all the onsens, private & public, and they are all excellent.

Magical once in a lifetime experience

Incredible hideaway in the mountains.. I've been to several Ryokans in Okuhida and this is instantly my favourite one. Right next to the H041 bus stop that leaves from Takayama, we got confused because the signs were in Japanese and there were several Ryokans in the vicinity.. but one of the young staff came rushing out to lead us in.. the amazing hospitality continued throughout our stay. the open air hot springs were a delight and was always available. Everything was such a wholesome experience, this is my favourite place in all of the world (yes I said that!) and we will be back next year in November. Thank you

Lovely staff, fabulous baths, great location

The staff here were absolutely wonderful at every turn. We were travelling with a 6 month old baby and they were incredibly accommodating and kind. The baths are lovely, both the public and private ones. Incredible kaiseki dinners and settings for them with fire pits. Lovely room with good heating. Beautiful decorations throughout the property which felt loved and well looked after.

Once in a lifetime experience

We had the most incredible experience at Yumoto Choza. It was our first onsen experience and it absolutely blew us away. This ryokan was the highlight of our trip to Japan and has us already planning to come back. The service is top notch and all the staff were so warm and friendly. We stayed two nights and had the pleasure of indulging in fresh traditional japanese cuisine. One of our servers Chika was such a pleasure to speak to and was extremely patient with us trying to speak Japanese. Our time here will be one we never forget and will talk about forever. Thank you so much for having us!

Everything I had hoped for from a ryokan stay!

The building and gardens are beautiful. There were so many onsen to choose from and we loved the private one so we could go together as a family. The food was delicious. The staff were lovely.

Perfect relaxing in quiet and beautiful surroundings

The hot springs (onsen) was perfect, both indoor and outdoor in all the private and public areas. All built with natural materials like wood and stone.

The place is good with traditional style, located a bit away from Hirayu area but could be access by bus. There’s only one restaurant on the street, I didn’t book dinner at hotel on Sunday and the restaurant was closed, staffs are really helpful, they drove me to another village 10mins driving distance for dinner spontaneously without any additional charge, excellent stay here.
