We like its location as it is only a few minutes from the old streets. It's located in a quiet and small alley where the local lives. The host was helpful. We found the kettle was not clean , he sent a new one shortly on the same afternoon. He also offered us to store our luggage before and after check-in which made our trip easier. The house has everything we need including a kitchen and proper laundry and dryer although we didn't use them. If you would like to experience the old style Japanese housing experience , I would highly recommend.

This house is beautiful! Old world charm with modern comforts. The paper walls and doors made us a little nervous but the kids played calmer than usual. It was lovely to stay in a house after hotel stays. It felt like home away from home. We absolutely loved our stay here and would stay again. The location was great, close to restaurants/cafes/bars and walking distance to the train station. Takayama was the highlight of my trip and a big reason was this beautiful house. I wish we stayed longer.

We had a unique experience staying at Utatei with local style house. We love the warm blanketed table and tatami rooms very much. Amenities are great and house is clean.

“Fantastic private house in great location”

We loved our stay at Utatei. As it was a private house, it was wonderful having so much space. The beds were very comfy and I think i slept better here than anywhere else in Japan! There were heating / cooling options on both levels, although we didnt need them as we stayed in spring.The location was fantastic, right across the river from the Miyagawa Morning markets / old town and walking distance to all the main sites. Highly recommend this house!

“Wonderful and couldn’t ask for more besides height door frames”

Was wonderful and in a great location however since many members of my group are above 6ft tall it was hard to navigate without constantly banging my head into any doorframe

Charming vintage home in the heart of Takayama. Parking is 1 min walk away. Kitchen is good enough for simple breakfast. Good for doing laundry( washing and drying) with plenty of hangers.

Aki is amazing houst. He welcome us in his Beautiful japanes house. If you are hotel person go to hotel, BUT if you really looking for japanes house, to feel the real thing, stay here at list 4-5 days. Take your time and enjoy. The house location is supper, close to every thing. Its big house and if you are family or group this is just perfect! Thank you Aki, you are the best

You have a whole traditional house for yourself. Great location close to the historic city center. It is well equipped and has a clean bathroom. Toilet is separated from the washing room. Free washing machine and dryer to use.
