The place was beautiful, with a real japanese house and a Japanese garden with karp Koys. Beds were very comfortable and the bedroom was comfy and private. We had free tea in the afternoon and in the morning with our japanese breakfast which was delicious. They were very nice and even took us from the train station to the house and in the morning took us to the bus station and got our baggage in our next accommodation. Amazing experience overall, thanks again for this stay..

Tai and his parents are incredibly nice. The room was perfect. Everything was super clean. The breakfast was amazing. Tai picked us up from the train station, helped with the luggage, drove us in the morning, picked us up in the evening. Everything was perfect! Thank you! “A wonderful experience of Japanese hospitality”

Tai and family are exceptional hosts. The house is beautifully restored from a silkworm farm, with much wood showing. Sleeping was very comfortable on futons with Yakutas provided. Tai met us at the station, took our luggage on, and left us to look around Takayama, but amazingly provided umbrellas as it was raining - a typical example of how much thought the hosts give to guests. He then picked us up later, and the following day dropped us in town with suggestions of what to see, and finally dropped off our luggage at the railway station in the afternoon. Breakfast was offered as Japanese and Western - both beautifully presented (his mother is an excellent cook). The house is next to a road, but no noise, and has a beautiful garden and overlooks fields of crops. Nights outside were cool, but the wood burning stove heated the whole building. Nothing was apparently too much trouble - providing a very relaxing stay.

“Best experience we had in Japan!!”

Definition of great service and proper immersion in a Japanese stay. I’d definitely come back and recommend to anyone visiting Takayama. Tai-San and his family were nothing short of amazing. The hotel is a beautiful Japanese styled home, with a cozy fireplace and wonderful garden views. The room has a very soft tatami and super comfortable futon to sleep on. Our rest there was great! Everything has been done with great care and detail in the house which really surfaces up and makes you feel you are in a special place. In terms of service, Tai and family had great disposition to make our stay as comfortable and smooth as possible. Tai went to the train station to pick up our luggage as soon as we arrived and left us to wander the marvellous Takayama during the day to finally pick us up after dinner. He was always accommodating to our daily itineraries and full of great tips for Takayama and surroundings as well as good restaurants recommendations. He even had the patience to stand my bad attempts at speaking Japanese! I’m very sad that the stay has come to an end and really wish we could’ve stayed more to enjoy this beautiful place. “Wonderful stay”

Honestly can’t rate this BnB highly enough. Tai was so kind and helpful. The food was outstanding with great local produce crafted into a delicious breakfast. Tai even went as far as to offer to collect us and drop us off each day from our nearby tourist destinations which saved us a good wedge of time. The annex house where we stayed was charming and we enjoyed ending the day by sitting by the fire with Tara the cat. Thank you ever so much and can’t wait to return.

“Beautiful, comfortable property, with hosts that go above and beyond”

As soon as I made the booking, Tai, the host, messaged me to make sure I knew SOY was a few minutes drive from town. We had a car, but would have managed perfectly well without. We made use of the shuttle service to have dinner in Takayama, and do some tasting at a couple of the many sake breweries in town. Tai gave us restaurant recommendations, and assisted by making a booking for us at one that is walking distance from the property. The property is a renovated traditional house, with very comfortable Japanese-style rooms and beautiful grounds. We enjoyed breakfast looking out at the gardens, and the koi in the pond. After the previous 5 days in Osaka and Kyoto, SOY and Takayama were a tranquil haven.

“Wonderful Place”

We had a wonderful stay here, where everything was exactly as described and shown in the pictures. The accommodation was clean, comfortable, and really relaxing. After the hustle and bustle of Tokyo and Kyoto, it felt like the perfect retreat in Takayama. Tai and his family were incredibly warm and welcoming, and we really appreciated all of Tai’s help both before and during our stay, especially with making reservations. He’s genuinely a very kind person. The Japanese breakfast was also delicious, and the hospitality throughout was exceptional. We would absolutely stay again and we will remember it fondly when looking back on our trip to Japan.

We loved every minute of our time with Tai and his family at SOY. Tai made everything so easy for us with advice and assistance on travel logistics. The shuttle service provided was so convenient. The breakfast and accommodation were superlative with lots of thoughtful touches. We especially enjoyed staying in the old wooden house with traditional sliding doors and contemporary comforts. “A Takayama dream”

What a magical place! We only stayed 2 nights but the memories will stay with us forever! Infront of the log fire with Tara the cat, warm tea, snow falling over the Japanese garden - it felt like a dream! The host Tai and his family showed hospitality and care that we've never experienced before, and worry we might never see again. Tai was caring, thoughtful and nothing was too much. He also spoke the best English we heard all trip. Don't worry about location, Tai will always offer a lift for days out, dinners and even with luggage. There is also a 7/11 next door. This was genuinely the best accommodation we have ever stayed at during our travels and we have stayed at many. We can't recommend it enough! I will always recommend SOY to anyone visiting Japan and we hope to be back one day!

The most fabulous place to stay! Beautiful house in a peaceful location - this was such a highlight of our trip. I had a wonderful stay at the accommodation managed by Tai and his parents. The property was very well maintained, and the thoughtful care throughout the space was clearly noticeable. I only wished I could have stayed longer. The Japanese-style breakfast was neatly prepared and delicious, providing a great start day of my trip. The hearth created a calm and relaxing atmosphere, making the stay even more enjoyable. Pick-up and drop-off services were provided, which made transportation very convenient. I truly appreciated the warm hospitality and the lovely handmade dog badge. I would be very happy to stay here again.

Our stay at SOY was incredible! Tai and his family are among the loveliest people we've met in Japan. Tai was extremely helpful in providing suggestion of where to go for good food and good onsen experience and more. The food Tai's mum is cooking is absolutely amazing, easily the best food we had in Japan. The place is a bit far away from the city center, but Tai brings every guest with his van to their destination in town and get them back too. We had a rented car so Tai didn't have to help us with that, but it was great to know we had that option too. Tai's place is beautifully decorated too and I don't think the pictures provided here are making it enough justice. Please, if you are still thinking of booking or not your stay at SOY, don't overthink and just do it. You will not regret it :). Tai, thank you so much for having us at your place. The house is very cozy and comfy, the room is spacious and super clean, breakfast is amazing and the hosts do everything to make you feel comfortable - including driving you from & to the city center that is a quick 8mn ride away. We had a wonderful time at SOY thanks to Tai and his parents, who are excellent hosts. We stayed in the room with a sitting area, which was beautiful, authentic, and spacious, as was the living room itself, which was lovely and welcoming. There's a very pretty Japanese garden in front of which you can enjoy delicious Japanese breakfasts in the morning. Tai speaks very good English and is always happy to help if needed. For a truly authentic Japanese experience, I highly recommend this guesthouse.
