Overview
Set among the Northern Japan Alps, Ryokan Gizan features relaxing natural hot springs in a peaceful setting. Fresh multi-course meals and both Western- and Japanese-style rooms with futon bedding are featured. Free in-room WiFi is provided. Rooms at Gizan Ryokan have tatami floors and include a full private bathroom. Each includes a refrigerator and electric kettle. Guests can make a fresh cup of tea and enjoy watching TV. The hot spring baths at Ryokan Gizan draw water from the Shin Hirayu hot spring, known to relieve fatigue and joint pain. Guests can also go fishing or unwind with a massage. Japanese-style multi-course meals (kaiseki) are served for breakfast and dinner in the hotel’s dining room. These meals feature seasonal delicacies made from fresh local ingredients. Shinhodaka Aerial Ropeway can be reached with a 20-minute drive while the popular Kamikochi Area is a 30-minute drive away. Mt. Norikura and JR Takayama Station are both a 1-hour drive away.

A very quiet ryokan tucked away in the mountainside. Very friendly and all English speaking staff. The breakfast and dinner is delicious and in generous proportions. They provide private onsen with sake at no charge! Their public bath is small but comfortable. Their afternoon snacks are aplenty and non-alcoholic drinks are free flowing. Driving there makes most sense because of easy access to nearby attractions. Kamikochi is only 25mins away and there are many onsens nearby. If you're looking for a cosy, quiet getaway with some activity, this is the place.

We had the most excellent stay at Ryokan Gizan! It was our first stay at a Ryokan and it was a good introduction as it is a bigger property. The rooms were simple but very comfortable. There is a good choice of public and private baths and we didn’t have to wait to use any of the facilities. The food was Hida beef that you cooked yourself and was delicious, very special to try local ingredients. The staff were also friendly and welcoming. We would definitely recommend staying here.

“Traditional ryokan with great food”
Charming traditional ryokan. Well located for exploring the Japan Alps. We wanted a base for a day hike nearby, and this was ideal. Five private onsens, which were lovely. We ate in the restaurant both nights, and the food was fantastic (lots of local beef and other Japanese dishes). Bus stop nearby for exploring the region.
