The meals were excellent but way too much food for non-breakfast folks :) . It was great for big eaters and they really try to give you the most Japanese experience.we had our 6 and 11yo travelling with us and even the kids felt comfortable. All staff were so lovely and pleasant, that has to be their top score.

The best experience during our whole stay in Japan. The food was incredibly delicious. The attitude was amazing. The ryokan is small, traditional, don't expect lux but if you want to touch the authentic Japan experience, Oyado Yamakyu is the place.

Everything! Especially the food. This is the highlight of our trip in japan. We got to experience the japanese life style at ryokan, it is just perfect.

We really enjoyed our stay. This is an older Ryokan that has been well visited with lots of charm. The service and food was excellent (we requested vegetarian and it was made clear that there would be dashi in the stock which we were ok with). The outdoor bath was very nice. The hosts and staff were very kind, welcoming and even organised a transfer that we were not expecting. I would definitely recommend and return.

The sound proof was poor, could hear the noise from upper and lower floor units. And because we were given a room infront of the staircase, it was very noisy and disturbing whenever someone passed through.

Nice Bath. Close to the old part of town. Good dinner and Breakfast. Room comfortable.

The staff were lovely, welcoming and very friendly. The food experience was amazing and we all tried many new foods. Dinner and breakfast were included and the food well and truly exceeded my expectations.

Great location for exploring. Really fun having the traditional experience of sleeping on tatami and bathing in the onsen. The food was excellent and so generous in quantity. Pickup and drop off from the train station was very helpful, and the staff were all adorable.

This has been the highlight of our trip to Japan. The most welcoming staff and incredible food. We were blown away by the service and meals provided. The rooms are very clean, and the Onsen is lovely. I highly recommend staying here when visiting Takayama.
