It was the first night I truly slept well since arriving in Japan. The house has a welcoming atmosphere that exudes peace, the decor is impeccable, and the service is excellent. Furthermore, they gave my son very thoughtful gifts for his birthday. Unfortunately, I fell ill the morning I visited the city, but staying there made the situation more comfortable. After a few days in Tokyo, with all that chaos, staying there was the best thing my past self offered my future self. I intend to return and will definitely stay there again!

Location was fantastic. Close to train & bus station and only a short walk to old town. We celebrated our wedding anniversary and received a generous bottle of sparkling sake & treats on check-in to help us celebrate -a lovely touch. Staff also assisted with arranging restaurant bookings ahead of our visit. Breakfast and the stocked bar fridge were also appreciated and the cedar bath was amazing at the end of our busy days.

This place is fantastic. The best place we stayed in Japan so far. The house was spacious, well equipped and very beautiful. It was hard to leave. If I am ever in Takayama again there is no where else I would stay.

Sure, it's a bit on the pricier side, but everything about this property exceeded our already high expectations. The location, right on the river, is practically within the old town, the house is every bit as spacious and beautiful as in the pictures, every single appliance is high end and looks brand new, and I have never in my life slept in a more comfortable bed. The wooden bath with a view of the river was a delight after walking 15+km a day, and both balconies, especially the one with the bed on the upper floor, were a dream in the beautiful weather we were blessed with. We were greeted by wonderful hosts, who transported our bags, showed us around the house, offered recommendations for local restaurants/activities, filled the fridge with complimentary soft and alcoholic drinks, and brought us a little gift when we checked in. The entire place is just so incredibly cozy, stylish and welcoming, with a sheen of old Japan on top of a sleek, modern interior. 100% would stay here again.

Wonderful traditional house to experience life as japanese. Very nice outside bathub although not big enough for two. Comfy beds and futons. Good breakfast and practical kitchen with full supply of complementary drinks. Perfect location. Extra friendly and helpful staff

Great location, standard of property, little extras like good quality drinks and felt like a boutique luxury hotel.

It was an incredible experience to stay in this property in Takayama. The hot bath in the courtyard was great - and felt particularly special with the snow on the ground. The house itself is quite old and not well-insulated, so the rooms were quite cold in winter. There were heaters and air conditioners in every room to get the place warmed up of course.

Well renovated traditional Japanese house. All amenities and a few nice extra touches like drinks in the fridge and some products in the bathroom. They were very organised and welcoming even providing a lift to the station at checkout.
