Honestly, just go here if you're in Takayama! It was expensive (the ryokan/Japanese suite), by far our most expensive stay in our Japan trip, but worth every penny. We're actually sad that our stay was only one night. Where do i start: - Absolutely fantastic staff, no words for the attention to detail and kindness. - Amazing view on the river. - Fantastic Ryokan experience, huge space, everything was super comfortable. - Didn't manage to try the food, but based on reviews, I think that's also worth it. - Perfect cleanliness, amenities, Onsen, etc.

all went well thank you. We did not have breakfast. The set evening meal was exceptional. The massage was brilliant too and we enjoyed the spa.

We chose not to stay in Ryokan during our trip but this hotel gave us a taste of a traditional Japanese hotel without compromising on comfort. The western style rooms had everything we wanted but felt authentic. The staff were very friendly and professional.

The breakfast was amazing. We really enjoyed both the Japanese and Western breakfasts. The location near the red bridge is fantastic and we really enjoyed the view.

The western room that we book on the 6th floor was newly renovated very comfortable and clean. Excellent Dinner and Breakfast. Great experience. Highly recommended.

This hotel was one of our highlights during our travels in Japan. From arriving at the station to leaving - the staff were so kind, helpful, welcoming and made sure we had everything. The room was exceptionally clean, the beds were so comfortable, women’s only onsen was out of this world. Location was brilliant, so close to the old part of town. The dinner and breakfast - what an experience! We were celebrating our silver wedding anniversary and the staff made it so special for us. We would love to come back! Thank you for making our stay so special!

Location, proximity to conservation area. Friendly staff and especially Ono who picked us up at the station and had a wealth of knowledge. Pointed out the important places to visit. He was so helpful and informative. The on -site shop was very well stocked with local products. We will definitely stay at Honjin if we return to Takayama. Really enjoyed our stay with you.

Perfect location, close to the old town district and great view by the river

“A wonderful experience in a peaceful and historic location.”

Even though the property is a high-rise building , it manages to feel like an authentic Japanese inn. Superb location overlooking looking the river and the famous red Bridge. Breakfast was very good.

The room was excellent and comfortable with great views of the river. The location is perfect - it's just off the main stretch so the street it's on is not too crowded, and everything is still just a walk away. The rooftop onsen for the guys and relaxkura for the ladies is a major highlight. Staff were friendly and attentive and most spoke english, if that's an important factor.
