“A secret auberge on woods edge”

The Japanese-Italian fusion kitchen is outstanding! The owners both are chefs with international experience and have a handsome collection of wines. WC private in comfortable room with views into surrounding greenery. 2 facility rooms, each with shower and hottub (view into woodlands!). Located on the edge of the forest, road dead-end, only a 15-minute drive from Old Town Takayama.

Lovely interior and rooms were comfortable . Food was outstanding . Delicious home cooked breakfasts and lift from the centre of town appreciated very much .

A beautiful property, the little touches like the fireplace, spacious rooms and very modern made it feel luxurious. Views of the trees and sound of running water from our room also made it relaxing. The dinner was epic - one of the best dinners we had in Japan - so good we did dinner twice (the wine pairing was interesting and worth trying). Whilst the property is outside the town, the free shuttle service was handy. Whilst the bathrooms are shared, they are very nice especially the hot bath.

Meals were exceptional; the room was large and very comfortable; the private onsen was lovely and relaxinig; staff were outstanding; we loved the guest lounge with open fireplace and the relaxed feel of the place.

This is my 3rd visits to Takayama this year during different seasons and this trip is mainly as a base for visiting Kamikochi. I booked this inn away from city center to experience the hospitality of a small family-run inn and the dining experience with wine pairing. Auberge Hida no Mori didn't disappoint 🙏🤗

Absolutely beautiful hotel with elegant modern Japanese style. Warm crackling fires, the scent of Japanese pine in the air. Extraordinary food and wine. Toshi is an amazing and knowledgeable host with excellent English Fantastic hospitality and welcome from everyone.

This property had absolutely beautiful interior design with warm inviting lighting, and was nestled perfectly in a beautiful forest. The staff were friendly and the food provided was amazing - a modern and international take on traditional ryokan meals. The pyjamas provided were extremely comfortable and the rooms were cozy and minimalist with views of the surrounding forest. We loved the lounge area downstairs where you could relax with magazines and views of nature. Surrounding walks in the forest were lovely.

Auberge is a beautifully designed, minimalist small family run hotel. The rooms are a great size, comfortable and the bathrooms have lovely hot water onsen baths! What sets this place apart is the amazing food you can have for dinner and breakfast. It’s the best feeling coming down the stairs to eat in their lovely dining space, experience the most amazing food and wine pairings of your life and then easily walk upstairs to bed. Thank you for an amazing stay, we will definitely be back and recommend to all our friends.
